The most troubling example of racial inequality in America today is the inner-city school. Civil-rights iniquities begin here.
You don't hear the two loudest ecclesiastical divines, the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, complaining about self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing teachers whose unions supportthe cozy status quo. You don't hear the educationist bureaucrats in the big cities, who pull down salaries wildly disproportionate to their talents and responsibilities, crying for the pain of what the schools are doing to black children. White liberals usually don't want to clean up the wreckage, because if they did, they wouldn't have convenient objects to pity to prove how compassionate they are.

Fresh opportunities? Sounds to me like the old days of the three R's. Kids went to school to learn certain basics that were essential for moving on in the world. Did it in English, too. The liberal experiment has failed miserably, to steal a phrase from Dicky. All's we need to do is get rid of the liberal, multicultural claptrap and there won't be any excuses necessary.
There are some pretty bright people running around in the world; it's a shame fewer and fewer have landed in the area of teaching kids.
