[history]
Federal agents have arrested almost 200 smuggling suspects and thousands of undocumented immigrants along Interstate 10 in the aftermath of a deadly shooting incident earlier this month, authorities said.
The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection started intensified patrols Nov. 7 as part of "Operation Transguard," targeting I-10 and other popular smuggling arteries in response to a deadly shootout south of Phoenix.

Where I come from, they shot coyotes as vermin. Mayhap the practice should be revisited?

It most certainly can be done when the agents are given free rein to do what needs to be done. It's about doggoned time, IMVHO.
I'm concerned about the numbers in this article, though. The Tucson Citizen reported here on 11/15 that there were:
More than 1,500 suspected illegal immigrants have been caught in the first week of a new Border Patrol operation at two airports and along Interstate 10.
Among them were 550 smugglers, and $750,000 worth of their cash and assets were seized, according to Andy Adame, spokesman for the Border Patrol's Tucson sector.
I guess 6500 is more than 1500 but...note that the number of smugglers dropped from 550 to 198.

I still shoot the four-legged variety.
I can't shoot the other kind and keep my clearance...

OK after you get through with the coyotes how about doing something about the junk cars being toed day and night going to the border. On a recent trip on IH10, Houston to New Orleans, I must have counted fifty of these accidents wainting to happen.

Yes, it can be done, after all, elections are coming up. Now they need to start looking for the 10(?) million that are already here, using up our social services and overcrowding our schools and hospitals. With a White House and Congress pandering to Mexico, this probably will never happen.

"Federal agents have arrested almost 200 smuggling suspects and thousands of undocumented immigrants along Interstate 10" What I want to read in the headlines is that they have actually been convicted and imprisoned!

This is my biggest bugagoo complaint about our country. I can see controled entry to work, then get the hell out.
To think, Tom Ridge is a personal friend and I ain't going into that, but I am disgusted at the job he is doing.

Did I read this article wrong??? Didn't the article say that this program ended Tuesday? We can't have too much success on our borders. Success in apprehending illegals now means that the Border Patrol could have prevented most of the illegals in the states.
I guess the reason they have stopped a successful operation like this is that W still needs more votes.
