Schwarzenegger selects new DMV director
Associated Press

Posted on 11/18/2003 12:17:09 PM PST by BurbankKarl

SACRAMENTO (AP) In one of his first moves as Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger named a new Department of Motor Vehicles director.

Chon Gutierrez started Tuesday as the DMV's interim director, said Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Margita Thompson.

Until his appointment, Gutierrez was the state's chief assistant secretary of state.

Gutierrez has also served as director of the California Lottery.

Thompson could not confirm reports by The Sacramento Bee that DMV director Steven Gourley had been fired Monday. She said did not yet know.

Gourley and the DMV did not immediately return calls to The Associated Press.

When I lived in New York City and went to the DMV to get a license (on my lunch hour) the line was so long it was unbelieveable. While we waited, we could see the DMV folks just sitting at their desks talking on the phone, talking to each other, reading the paper, or otherwise not doing anything much and completely ignoring us. Finally, a tall man, very executive looking, stepped up and screamed "Does anyone WORK here?" That got the DMV workers moving. I never forgot that experience. I was very young then and it motiviated me to become interested in politics and government. And yes, there's something seriously wrong. I firmly believe they could have gotten rid of all of these DMV non-workers, hired half their number in efficient, working individuals thereby saving taxpayers money.

But I disagree with you on one thing: The most hated public agency in California is the South Coast Air Quality Management District. I know. I used to work for the District.

LOL! Just like a Southron, as if the people of the rest of the State didn't exist except to send you water. ;-)

Exactly. Arnold means business.

Exactly. Arnold means business.

What does that prove? I never said I thought he would be ineffective. Arnold isn't a leader of the whole Republican Party. He could be half as effective as Wilson at screwing conservative candidates and end up being a disaster for the Party base and everything it stands for, particularly property rights.

Seeing as he has already chosen to snub the lady who started the recall that got him elected and the organization that carried it through, I don't call that a good indication for conservatives. IMHO, it was a cheap shot and he already has fences to mend.

I beleive the DMV is on their third attempt in 10 years to upgrade their computers. Looking at my wifes recent photo I would say they are going backwards...

BTW...how many years did it take Doofus to appoint Gourley to this post?

?????

And while you are sniping at Arnold, ask yourself if you really think that having Davis or Bustamante as governor would really be so great for the Republican Party in 2004 or in general.

I was interested in your substantiating your claim of how Arnold "snubbed" "the lady who started the recall".

I never heard anything about it, not have I heard that the recall was started by a woman.

To what are you referring to?

Interested? Let's see what you said:

And while you are sniping at Arnold, ask yourself if you really think that having Davis or Bustamante as governor would really be so great for the Republican Party in 2004 or in general.

Well Karl Rove was convinced Davis would be better than a recall so why don't you ask him?

The recall was born on KSFO radio during a morning conversation between Shawn Steel and Melanie Morgan. It was the latter who first suggested the recall, long before Ted Costa got involved. As you will recall, the Party didn't run Arnold until it became obvious they couldn't kill the recall.

Neither Ted Costa nor Melanie Morgan was invited to Arnold's private bash. That is a snub unworthy of a "governor of the people," much less a Republican.

Sniping... I said I would hold Arnold accountable for what he does. This choice is another "does" that reflects his political intentions as regards conservatives. You know, those people RINOs depend upon to get elected and shaft if they win in the primary.

Your continued reliance upon fear mongering Bustamante, as if he was in reality capable of beating a single Republican candidate, is as hollow now as it was on election day. Had Arnold not crashed the party, McClintock would have cleaned Bustamante's clock. Late poll numbers confirmed that.

Neither it or the DMV come close. Most hated? It's the Franchise Tax Board hands down.

Arnold stated in his speech today that he gives back his income of $ 175,000.00 per year to the general fund of the state.

An important gesture for him to make, when he needs to bring up the subject of a pay cut for the legislature. I think they all make around a hundred grand a year, plus expenses. Can't wait to hear the Rats yowl about that one!

Sure, the way Simon "cleaned Davis's clock".

Oh, BTW, Al Gore is President.

It is thanks to GOP moderates, like you, that Davis was re-elected. So nice of you to take credit for it.
