Albeit a transplant, I too am one. The people of this state baffle me. The same people vigorously patrol opposite ends of the political spectrum. They breed from so many vessels that child support is as common as beer money. They borrow out the arss for toys, new trucks, Harley's, and then complain because at $22.00 an hour in the local mill they can't make ends meet.
Love their huntin guns, love their unions, want social healthcare, show off the lousiest public schools I've ever seen, throw more money at anything that the state is willing to do which should be their own personal responsibility, and coddify a UW system that poisons the teacher supply for public schools and is run like a mafia organization.
Feh......Maybe if you sliced off Milwaukee and put thorazine in the water supply of Madison this state would do it's people proud. Basically good folk, but have left issues to others who "knew better" for way too long.

If a candidate in Wisconsin had the name "Beer", he's be voted governor, pope, dog catcher, and DNR King.

This was not unexpected, though it is unwanted. I'd much rather have concealed carry pass than to have an election issue.
On a slightly different subject, I received my very first piece of mail from the NRA concerning concealed carry legislation in Wisconsin. Horray for the NRA finally taking notice.

why then did over half the state vote him in, in the first place? Who said over half the state voted for him? He beat a weak Lt. Gov. (who took over for TT as gov when he joined the Cabinet) in a 3-way race.

Yep. Call him One Term Doyle. One term? Let's try Partial Term Doyle. The recall fun will begin January 6, 2004, the moment it is constitutional to do so. First it was giving the Indians perpetual gaming conpacts for a song, then it was vetoing a freeze in property taxes (after he ran on a campaign of not raising taxes), then it was vetoing a marriage defense act while announcing that he would extend benefits to shack-up friends of state employees, and now it's the vetoing of concealed carry.

IIRC, Doyle's AG Department authored legislation (never got out of the gate) which would have actually outlawed BULLETS--of all sizes and varieties--after 9/11 occurred.
Of course, he claimed that he, personally, had nothing to do with that and he was busy on other things, and flunkies make mistakes, and so forth.
But don't for one second think that Doyle is even CLOSE to being a centrist: he's a power-mad far-Left control freak who has an agenda which makes Ted Kennedy look like a conservative Republican.

You are wrong on your facts.
Doyle won with a plurality, not a majority. Tommy Thompson's brother grabbed about 10% of the vote and the Republican who ran against Doyle was a moron, and I mean a moron. No principles, no brain, and damn near lifeless, too.
Doyle's election is comparable to the GHBush/Clinton deal.

The rhetoric from the Democratic politicians who have opposed this measure would be laughable, if it weren't for the fact that we're talking about one of the essential freedoms granted us by our founding fathers.
Consider these quotes:
Rep. Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) made a tearful plea to defeat the bill, recalling the murders of her parents, Lynn and Richard Ehlenfeldt, and five others at the Brown's Chicken & Pasta restaurant in Palatine, Ill., in 1993.
No one has ever been arrested in what was Illinois' worst unsolved mass murder since the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. "Gun violence is personal, so personal to me," Shilling said. "This is an arms race. This is crazy. When will this all end? This morning you have had a vote for gun violence. I'm not proud of what we're doing. I'm ashamed."
The salient point Miss Jennifer Shilling keeps avoiding is that if a law-abiding citizen had been carrying that day, her parents would most likely still be alive.
Here's another gem:
"Parts of my district have the highest murder rate in any part of Wisconsin," said Rep. Antonio Riley (D-Milwaukee), whose father was a victim of gun violence. "If you want to do it in Oconto, fine. Go to your local bait and gun shop, drink your beer, twirl your guns and have fun."
Representative Antonio Riley seems unwilling to admit to himself that it was a criminal that was carrying that day. His flawed logic contends that if you defeat concealed carry, the bad guys will go away. Yet, it gets better; another quote from Riley . . .
"I don't have to understand an Uzi to know I don't want one in the restaurant next to me."
Just how does one conceal an Uzi?
Here's another:
Rep. Johnnie Morris-Tatum (D-Milwaukee) told lawmakers that Milwaukee's urban landscape should exempt it from the bill.
"You come and live in my district for a week," she said. "You go to two or three funerals for babies and tell me there is nothing different from my community and yours."
Again, the prevailing school of thought by Representative Johnnie Morris here is if you defeat concealed carry, the bad guys will give you a pass. Cripes!
Washburn County Sheriff Terry Dryden, president of the Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association, said "We're going to have cops pulling their guns when they approach a car on a traffic stop, and that will make it more dangerous for police and the public."
Oh, the LEOs are going to get even more trigger-happy? Does he forget they (the LEOs) already blew their own Waukesha Captain's brains out in a hostage situation not too long ago?
With the democrats, its all about feelings. Never mind that the nine lowest violent crime rates in the country are in states that have concealed-carry laws. You can quote facts, anecdotes, statistics, etc. until you're blue in the face; their feelings remain unchanged.
Consider the limitations in this bill:
You have to pass a Department of Justice background check.
You have to complete one of several specified 22-hour firearms training and safety courses.
You have to have a blood-alcohol content less than 0.02. (Be careful which mouthwash you use . . .)
A locked, unloaded handgun, locked in the glowbox of your vehicle is considered "concealed carry" in Wisconsin, according to the courts.
There is even a SPECIFIC PROVISION in the legislation preventing you from attending a Little League game if you are carrying! Talk about kowtowing to Doyle . . .
Yes, my old friend, I have a dog in this fight; an old, mean, distrustful, drooling 100# junkyard German Shepard and he's mad as hell! Logic and reason doesn't work with him anymore. Don't bother giving him a Scooby Snack to pacify him; because he'll just as soon take your arm off.
I named him Democrat . . .

Doyle Bill of Particulars (includes his direct actions and items currently in Wisconsin's "Tight, Tight, Fiscally Prudent" Budget:)
Vetoed Property Tax Freeze
Appointed Higgenbotham to Wis. Court of Appeals
Vetoed Expanded School Choice
Vetoed provision enabling munis/school districts to change health coverage
Vetoed Photo ID Requirement/Voting
Threatened the MU Dental School over holding Mass once/week--and therefore the school quit holding the Mass.
Called for tax-paid breakfast for ALL schoolchildren in Wisconsin.
Removed $565 million from highway funds to pay for school expenses, then proposed that the State borrow the money to build roads. Actually was initially a $billion, Repub's got $435MM back.
State Agency dues and membership fees sent to private organizations totalling $5 Million per budget. (That's right! You pay for Wisconsin to be a member of such prestigious groups like the International Llama Society and the National Hemp Foundation!)
69 state-owned vans which cart state employees from southeast Wisconsin to and from work in Madison every day. YOU are paying for the vans, gas, insurance, maintenance and salaries of 2 full-time state employees who oversee the program.
($1.2 Million each budget goes to subsidize this program.)
The second of Two 18-hole University of Wisconsin Golf Courses.(This has cost taxpayers $15 Million in bonding authority, even though our bond rating is 49th of the 50 states.)
Free housing and/or an "Entertainment Allowance" of $1562 per month for UW Chancellors. Total cost to taxpayers: $300,000 annually. (Did I mention they also get a free state car along with their $150,000 plus state salaries?)
A second residence for the UW-System President. (More than $100,000 per year is spent to staff and maintain this lavish second home. This is, of course, in addition to her $304,000 annual state salary.)
$50,400 per year for an American Indian Arts Grant(This taxpayer grant gives special, unfair treatment to one minority group over another.)
A Governor's office in Washington D.C. This office is a duplication of services since we have 7 Congressional offices in Washington already.
(Cost to taxpayers: $91,500 every two years not including 2 full-time positions)
An Indian Gaming Computer System costing $1,030,700 every two years. (Shouldn't the tribes be paying for this computer system rather than hardworking taxpayers?)
Doyle vetoes Legislative bill defining marriage as between a Man and a Woman
Doyle offers AFSCME contract language providing State-paid "shackup" health insurance
Lautenschlaeger writes opinion that contraceptives should be mandated in health insurance coverage.

The liberals can't keep it up for long they are losing power fast, the fact that he had to take the time and use political capital to veto a popular bill... well it will come around a second time and pass... but with conservative power.
