It is very difficult to get 2/3's +1 in both the House and Senate but it is almost impossible to get 3/4 ths of the State Legistlatures to ratify. You're ignoring the alternate method the Constitution provides for ratifying an amendment. Congress can specify that ratification is to be by state legislatures, as it usually does, but it can only specify that it is to be by state conventions. In the one case where the latter method was adopted, the 21st Amendment, the conventions were popularly elected, and ratification was accomplished within the short period of around nine months. I think it is most unlikely that the necessary 1/4 + 1 of state conventions would be elected that would be needed to block ratification of a federal marriage amendment.

This will destroy marriage because when anyone can marry anyone and their dog it will make 'marriage' meaningless. And when it becomes meaning less it will have been destroyed.

It is civil disobedience time. Concur. Any suggestions? Everything I've thought of so far keeps escalating to thousands of bulldozers simultaniously crossing the Massachusetts state line.

Gay marriage is vulgar.

Oh, do you really think most of us who are married would chose to marry our dog or a person of the same sex? If that is so, there is no hope for us.

mass also has a powerful Catholic contingent, so what is a liberal Catholic to do? That was my point.Well the Mass Catholic Church certainly had a powerful pedophile contingent in the priesthood and I say that as a Catholic from Ct.
Massachusetts is also overwhelmingly pro choice despite the number of Catholics. Of course, how one can be a practicing Catholic and pro choice at the same time flies right over my feeble head.

You can use it as much as you like but I will continue to see it as reflecting badly on the user.I don't use that kind of language because it creeps me out, I am just defending chacha's use of it, since same sex sodomy (or any kind) is definitely worse than any words used to describe it. To defend homosexual behavior as you are doing, and then by coy about words used to describe it, is disingenuous at best.

For a lot of europeans, marriage is just like long term dating, it has no special meaning anymore. Its getting like that here too.

"You're" reply? People in glass houses... .LOL. Grammarian, spell checker and typo police all rolled into one?
Any substantive answer to the "rational basis" question or is this little demonstration of being anal all you've got?

As the family goes, so goes the State. Indeed. Those that wave their hand at this have no idea what this nation will become, just as few would realize just what abortion would do to our country when it was made legal in 1973.

Yes, a fresh reading of the Declaration is a refreshing eye-opener. This issue will wind up before the Supreme Court. The current majority party needs to grow spines NOW and fight for GWB's judicial appointees and the traditional philosophy of what constitutes a qualified judge. The alternative is the Chuckie Schumer school of thought.
To: Bronco_Buster_FweetHyagh
What's the procedure in Mass. for removing a judge who fails to perform his duties? One such duty is to faithfully follow the constitution, not piss on it. Not that the legislature or the people of Mass. would be angry about this decision, but someone ought to at least threaten it.

Did this court of jack-in-the-box liberal clowns rule on what constitutes consummation of the marriage? I would make them, lol.
Spot on, Lancey. No marriage act, no marriage.

I wonder if gay marriage might be beneficial for society when you look at the single gay life,,surely monogamy and fidelity would be better than say bathhouse sex. Marriage certainly civilizes men and curbs their jungle like behavior {sorry guys}Please see my response to oomiprehs (or whatever her/his name is). Homosexuals want to have "gay" marriage so that society can be debased, not becuase they want to elevate themselves to chaste married monogamy. If some of them want to be monogamous, they can do that right now. But few of them want that, and laws won't change their behavior.
To: armadale
You think so? With more and more acceptance of this disgusting lifestyle do you think your kid is actually less likely to have contact with homosexuals, or people that tell you kids you are backwards for not thinking that homosexuality is ok?
In 30 years it has went from the bathhouses to the wedding chappels, soon any church that does not marry homosexuals will have an affirmative action suit on their hands.... They have through only political means made Christians extreemest..

So says the party of "smaller government" Limited government isn't the same as smaller government. It simply means restricting government to its intended purpose. One of its intended purposes is to restrain evil, and homosexuality is evil. Therefore, there is no conflict between conservatism and the desire to stop the gay agenda in its tracks.
Shalom.
