The Beatles did not age well. Some would say, that is because they were so innovative that all subsequent bands used their ideas.

Also, the lyrics were quite lame.

For the record, Boston's self-titled album is the best ever.

Lame? Lame?

A Day in the Life

I read the news today oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph.
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights have changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords.

I saw a film today oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had to look
Having read the book
I'd love to turn you on.

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged my comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream.

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.
I'd love to turn you on....

"Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye"

Boston's music - overly distorted/sustained guitars, ultra-high-pitched Journey/Kansas-type vocals - is about as dated as it gets, and their lack of radio time these days (even on classic rock stations) confirms it. (Most of) the Beatles music, otoh, is absolutely timeless. And the fact that we're discussing it right now (after all these years) confirms it.

"The Beatles did not age well."

Must be why their most recent release "1" went straight there.

Smokin', smokin, cookin' tonight just keep on tokin'.

It's not fair to compare the Beatles to such a lyrical high standard.

Hmmm -- now there's one that has been overlooked on this thread. I remember hearing somewhere that "More Than A Feeling" is the most often-requested song in the history of FM radio in the U.S.
