One man's opinion..it's way too soon..I would have preferred that he take the rest of the year off..came back after New Years..any 12 step program teaches that you wait at least 6 months, if not more, before entering into a relationship...Rush's "relationship is with his listeners...

It's all relative. He may not "need" 6 months. And the whole relationship thing is potentially mis-interpreted, anyway. I know someone who was counseled not to enter into a "relationship" with their husband, which was a pretty twisted deal, I'll tell ya! A good buddy of mine, too, and his marriage (not) surprisingly didn't survive. I also know someone who is in NA who has never taken narcotics, but felt that having been drunk ONCE qualified them. The whole NA/AA/Group-Therapy-Du-Jour can be helpful but is sometimes just the substitute of one addiction for another.
If Rush has gotten what he needs from his therapy, then he may not need any serious hand-holding. When he does need support, it'll be there for him.

Specious reasoning! It doesn't tell you to cut yourself off from all ongoing relationships. Rush's relationship with his listeners is an ongoing one that is prior to and apart from any trouble he may have had with prescription drugs.

That advice applies to new relationships, and the length of time reccomended is one year. You are also encouraged not to terminate any existing relationships until you have a year. It would not make sense to go through rehab and then divorce your wife or quit your job (unless of course you are married to a drug dealer or work as a bartender).
