Deadline nears to send packages to deployed Soldiers By Sgt. 1st Class Marcia Triggs
WASHINGTON (Army News Service, November 14, 2003) Christmas is a month away, but individuals only have half that time to get their packages to deployed troops in time for the holidays. |
Candy, gum, canned chips & dips, cookies, coffee, tea bags and other instant drink mixes, cereal bowls, breakfast & energy bars, pop tarts, beef jerky, beef sticks, pepperoni sticks, all kinds of heat and eat type meals, the little cans of pasta, canned meats and canned fruit cups. Spices, packets of fast food sauces, bricks of ramen noodles, peanut butter, cheese spread, tuna canned or in the foil pouches, snack cakes.
Really anything that can be eaten in one sitting or resealed is best.
Space is still at a premium so send the travel sizes of toothpaste, floss, footpowder, deoderant, shampoo, hand soap and hand sanitizer, razors.
Paperback books (new or used), sports/mens magazines (address label removed if necessary), pads of art paper & drawing pencils, blank cards (birthday & anniversary etc) for them to send back home. Stress relievers like hackey sacs, baseballs, footballs, hand held games, word puzzle books, rubber band shooters are always a hit! Pens, Paper, Envelopes
White tube socks, underwear and Army Tan t-shirts. Boxer shorts are being stolen by the locals in the laundry.
Playing Cards: or board games like chess, risk, or battleship.
Tobacco, Marlboro lights, cans of Copenhagen long cut
Drugs, plenty of motrin/advil, allergy pills, cold medicine, immodium, gas pills, antacid.
Disposable Cameras are great, blank recordable CDs
Bottles of Febreeze, dryer sheets, tents are getting that manly smell about them.
----------
I'd add hot sauce, garlic and/or Jane's mixed up salt to the list. Something to spice up the MREs or hot meals. Chocolate was a definite no-no during the summer (it would melt all over your package's contents), but it's probably safe to send some now. Maybe Christmas M&Ms or Reese's Pieces.
