New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told Iowa Democrats Saturday night that she recently visited Washington, D.C.'s Walter Reed Army Hospital to comfort wounded soldiers coming back from Iraq, saying their plight was the result of President Bush's arrogant foreign policy.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd at Iowa's Jefferson Jackson dinner, the top Democrat complained, "When the rest of the world opened its hearts to us [after 9/11], he turned his back and pursued a very narrow and unfortunate policy that we are still paying a very big price for."

"And of course, it is mostly falling on the shoulders of the young men and women who serve in our military," she added.

For the first time ever, Sen. Clinton revealed: "Last Tuesday night I went out to Walter Reed hospital, which, many of you know, is the Army hospital in Washington, to walk around and say hello to the soldiers who had been evacuated out of Iraq after suffering grievous injuries, to meet their familles, [and] to answer their questions."

She painted a picture of the unnecessary suffering due to what she said were the president's misguided policies:

"As I went from room to room and bed to bed, seeing young men who had lost arms and legs, who had head injuries that, at least as for now, prevented them from knowing their names and remembering where they came from - I knew that I was seeing the best that America has to offer."

A comprehensive review of news reports over the last week, however, failed to turn up any mention of Sen. Clinton's visit to Walter Reed.

The former first lady made similar claims of meetings with 9/11 victim familles to author Stephen Brill earlier this year. But when Brill attempted to confirm the visits with the families themselves, he got a different story.

"None of it turned out to be true," he told radio host Steve Malzberg. "[Sen. Clinton's office] gave me documents and phone calls and things like that which just plain never happened."

Essay: Blizzard of Lies

By WILLIAM SAFIRE

Americans of all political persuasions are coming to the sad realization that our First Lady -- a woman of undoubted talents who was a role model for many in her generation -- is a congenital liar.

Drip by drip, like Whitewater torture, the case is being made that she is compelled to mislead, and to ensnare her subordinates and friends in a web of deceit.

1. Remember the story she told about studying The Wall Street Journal to explain her 10,000 percent profit in 1979 commodity trading? We now know that was a lie told to turn aside accusations that as the Governor's wife she profited corruptly, her account being run by a lawyer for state poultry interests through a disreputable broker.

She lied for good reason: To admit otherwise would be to confess taking, and paying taxes on, what some think amounted to a $100,000 bribe.

2. The abuse of Presidential power known as Travelgate elicited another series of lies. She induced a White House lawyer to assert flatly to investigators that Mrs. Clinton did not order the firing of White House travel aides, who were then harassed by the F.B.I. and Justice Department to justify patronage replacement by Mrs. Clinton's cronies.

Now we know, from a memo long concealed from investigators, that there would be "hell to pay" if the furious First Lady's desires were scorned. The career of the lawyer who transmitted Hillary's lie to authorities is now in jeopardy. Again, she lied with good reason: to avoid being identified as a vindictive political power player who used the F.B.I. to ruin the lives of people standing in the way of juicy patronage.

3. In the aftermath of the apparent suicide of her former partner and closest confidant, White House Deputy Counsel Vincent Foster, she ordered the overturn of an agreement to allow the Justice Department to examine the files in the dead man's office. Her closest friends and aides, under oath, have been blatantly disremembering this likely obstruction of justice, and may have to pay for supporting Hillary's lie with jail terms.

Again, the lying was not irrational. Investigators believe that damning records from the Rose Law Firm, wrongfully kept in Vincent Foster's White House office, were spirited out in the dead of night and hidden from the law for two years -- in Hillary's closet, in Web Hubbell's basement before his felony conviction, in the President's secretary's personal files -- before some were forced out last week.

Why the White House concealment? For good reason: The records show Hillary Clinton was lying when she denied actively representing a criminal enterprise known as the Madison S.& L., and indicate she may have conspired with Web Hubbell's father-in-law to make a sham land deal that cost taxpayers $3 million.

Why the belated release of some of the incriminating evidence? Not because it mysteriously turned up in offices previously searched. Certainly not because Hillary Clinton and her new hang-tough White House counsel want to respond fully to lawful subpoenas.

One reason for the Friday-night dribble of evidence from the White House is the discovery by the F.B.I. of copies of some of those records elsewhere. When Clinton witnesses are asked about specific items in "lost" records -- which investigators have -- the White House "finds" its copy and releases it. By concealing the Madison billing records two days beyond the statute of limitations, Hillary evaded a civil suit by bamboozled bank regulators.

Another reason for recent revelations is the imminent turning of former aides and partners of Hillary against her; they were willing to cover her lying when it advanced their careers, but are inclined to listen to their own lawyers when faced with perjury indictments.

Therefore, ask not "Why didn't she just come clean at the beginning?" She had good reasons to lie; she is in the longtime habit of lying; and she has never been called to account for lying herself or in suborning lying in her aides and friends.

No wonder the President is fearful of holding a prime-time press conference. Having been separately deposed by the independent counsel at least twice, the President and First Lady would be well advised to retain separate defense counsel.

The making of virtual hillary

by Mia T, 11.16.03

The making of virtual hillary involves a cyber-Frankensteinian, multidimensional, multidisciplinary process. Virtual hillary was created on dual-processor Macs--G4, and the new supercomputer, the G5, which greatly reduces rendering time. Software used include 2D and 3D graphics, as well as lip-sync programs.

The hillary clinton bot is a dedicated (in the T1 sense), hybrid metasearch-artificial life construct. Its sole raison d'être is to rout out clinton lies, arrogance, dysfunction, megalomania, stupidity, danger, corruption, ineptitude, grotesquerie and utter failure.

The virtual-hillary-is-the-REAL-hillary construct is a work in progress -- (see THE TWEAKING OF VIRTUAL HILLARY: An Update and a Request) -- and will eventually reside at the following sites:

Lip-syncing virtual hillary has been an ongoing (congenital?) problem. Think it has been solved in the latest in the series, (hillary talks: On Ethnic Slurs).

I almost prefer virtual hillary with out-of-sync lips, tho; they are the perfect metaphor for the real hillary clinton's congenital inability to synchronize her words with the plain truth.

There a lot of people who are dismissive of any news source other than their own liberal outlets, irrespective of any reasoning other than that they are referenced by conservatives.

Your initial post fell squarely in that category. The secondary explanation isn't much better as it is pure ad hominem find your article and point out the distortions as you find them as you would any liberal paper. Don't put out any crap like "It's Debka so it's no good" or "It's Newsmax so it's no good" because the faulty logic will be applied to your sources as easily and also without reason. "It's Drudge so it's no good", "It's Townhawll so it's no good", etc., etc. Does that make sense to you?

I agree that she's dangerous, but her VOICE.....Yikes...she SCREECHES like a fish-monger's wife!!! What kind of person wants to hear that for 4 years??

After hearing her on one of her snarling tirades, I start to understand a little why Bill is the way he is.

interesting, isn't it that she and all those D Senators went out on the eve of the Judicial Marathon debate? Gave them something to talk about ... too bad they didn't go out there last March, April, May, June, July .......

Not that I believe she really went out there Tuesday night. SS records and families could confirm.

Does that make sense to you?

I can see where you are coming from, but you are not viewing this objectively at all. I was derisive of a source that you like and because of that you made assumptions about me and my perspective on Newsmax.

Had I said: 'It's the NY Times', or 'It's the Washington Post', in the same vein, I doubt it if you would have even questioned the comment.

Sure Newsmax at one time was a cutting edge conservative source, but they long ago lost that edge. When they lost that they then devolved into what they are now.

Some of us have already figured that out and we view them with a jaundiced eye.

What I want from a News source is not a "perspective" but information presented in a clear and honest manner. Very few out there offer that.

Newsmax is further to the right, in the biased presentation of the news, then the NY Times is to the Left. But at least with Newsmax you know what you are getting: the unabashed conservative perspective.

Agreed. Newsmax reads like a conservative tabloid. I usually agree with the points its writers make, but
it's hard to use it as a credible source in debate.

"My sister works in the Office of the Commander at Walter Reed and she's aware when VIPs visit the troops. She is not aware of Hilary visiting last week. If was kept secret, she would know that too because of the extra security that would have to be arranged. I also read something about 18 senate democrats supposedly visiting the troops last Thursday, including Daschle. But would the minority leader do that during the middle of the debate?
I can get my sister to check all of this out on Monday. She can ask the public affairs officr, or the General's aide or secretary.
It can be confirmed easily.

Guess what, she really got a treat. She got to take a picture with Bo Derek. She said Bo is absolutely gorgeous!
