Well, my Dad played with for the Giants with Willie Mays and used to talk about the "red juice" in a little bottle in Say Hey's locker.

It was obviously some sort of speed. Should his records be altered or asterisked?

Speed isn't steroids, and doesn't produce even close to the same effects. ....and neither does beer.

Uppers aren't steroids.

nice try but roids were on the horizon via China a 150 years ago

"On the horizon?" WTF does that mean. My evidence comes from medical records/studies. .....Yours comes from your ass.

He said roids not hemmorrhoids.

I read something online which relates to this:

Interviewing the SF Giants' outspoken trainer, Stan Conte, a couple years ago, he said that he can tell a steroid-related injury when he sees one. Two of his telltale signs: 1) a muscle tear in which the player's muscle (usually the groin) tears completely from the bone, or 2) an eroding knee (non-ligament tear) on a player whose muscle mass has spiked in recent years.

This is interesting. In New York this year, Mike Piazza was out for most of the season with a groin injury, and Jason Giambi has had problems with his knees. Kind of makes you wonder.

If Bonds is busted on this, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Of course under the incredibly weak MLB rules just put into effect, he would receive nothing but the mildest of taps in the general area of his wrist.

I think the real punishment players caught with steroids will receive will be to their reputation. Look at how Sammy Sosa was mocked this year by fans in every city simply because of being caught with a corked bat. If a player is caught using steroids, the fans and the media will be relentless.

Time for a steroid expert like myself to chime in

I'm at the point of saying who cares if pro atheletes are on them. Testing and regulating is a sham. Anyone who has spent some time in a gym knows what a roid head looks like. The abuse is incredible. Let them do it if they choose. I'll treat them like pro wrestlers...we know they do so who cares....its their body.

Compare one of the big homerun hitter of the 70s, George Foster with Bonds or Sosa. He looks like a child compared to them.

It's an interesting take ......if the 'roid-heads are always going to be a step or two ahead of the testers/regulators (which they almost assuredly will), then why not just drop this pretense and let athletes take whatever they want?

Problem is that it sets a terrible example for kids, who'll undoubtedly want to gain whatever competitive advantage their heroes have by taking the same "supplements" they do.

I would have to disagree slightly. Low level steroids such as andro make you incredibly strong as well as make you bigger. So much so that the person not taking them are at a competitive disadvantage. It you don't believe me that supplements such as Andro don't make you stronger in a matter of weeks, just ask somebody who has taken them. A person regularly taking these over the course of their workouts doesn't necessarily have to be getting any bigger, regardless, their body is still loaded with hormone producing supplements that any other non-users can't compete with.

personally I think Bonds is the most studious hitter in the game.

Actually, it would be more correct to say that Bonds is the most steroidious hitter in the game.

I'd be shocked .....shocked I tell you .....if it turns out that Bonds has been using steroids. (Or, in the langauge of athletes, "nutrional supplements"). I mean, don't all ballplayers peak in their late 30's? Don't they all have heads the size of beachballs? Don't they all put on 50 lbs of pure muscle in two short years?

Well, Bonds has already declared that he's used creatine and andro, which, along with his notorious training regimen could certainly account for the increase in muscle mass. I think it's far from a foregone conclusion that he's used banned steroids.

BTW, look at the increased head sizes, over the courses of their careers, of earlier generations of baseball greats...

"It is difficult to compare photos of today's incredibly bulked-up Bonds with the slim athlete of his Pittsburgh Pirates years and not suspect that he has been taking steroids."

Darn tootin'...

If there are side by side facial portraits out there of BOTH Bonds and Sosa circa 1990 and now, the photos oddly enough would show overwhelming evidence of unexplained cranial growth.

These guys' gargantuan heads make it appear they're mistakenly wearing Little League helmets.

"Bonds (and probably McGuire) should have their records rescinded."

And toss in Sosa. My son had a Rookie Card of him bunting.

Then we should assume your hat-size never increased by 2 sizes??

Um, Oooo-Kay.... Does this mean Samson might having been on steroids when he took down that Philistine temple?
