Greek government spokesman Christos Protopapas commented on the statements made by US ambassador to Athens Thomas Miller against Mikis Theodorakis.

Those who exercise a specific mission in Greece should be more careful and it is not part of their duties to exercise criticism on statements made by Greek citizens especially, when they refer to issues that do not concern the country they represent, stated Mr. Protopapas.

The US Ambassador criticized the comments made by that Greek composer that Jews were the "root of all evil." It seems the Greek goverment didn't like what the US Ambassador did.

WOW - this seems really messed up. When a well known citizen of a country makes such a statement is it supposed to go unchecked?? Are there any Greeks here with any insights into this - how serior is this "Christos Protopapas" guy?

It's good to see the Greek government defending it's citizens and their anti-Semitic diatribes. I hope the ambassador will also point out the strong pro-Arab, anti-Israel, and anti-American positions staked out by his government.

I've been to Greece several times. Many of the people are wonderful. The left is very strong and is strongly anti-Semitic there and it is very worrisome.

For the past fifty years, coming out with an antisemitic remark has been enough to make anybody persona non grata. Now it seems that the rules are changing, in American academia, and seemingly all over the place in Europe.

Now you are only accused of antisemitism if you can be identified as a conservative. Leftists get a free pass to be as antisemitic as they want, as long as they do it in the name of postcolonialism.
