November 14, 2003 -- It was do or die for "Taboo" last night, as Rosie O'Donnell's troubled musical starring Boy George debuted on Broadway. The glitzy show, about the androgynous London club scene of the early '80s, opened at the Plymouth Theatre following weeks of less-than-stellar previews.

Anne Heche wasn't a lesbian in the first place; she wasn't even dabbling. Heche is straight and used Ellen Degeneres to advance her own career. I think her behavior was as cruel as it was disgusting. Ellen was pathetic to fall for it and it hurt her career. Degeners's humor had never been about sex; it was very clean. Thanks to her bizarre affair with Heche -- an affair that was a sham on Heche's side -- poor Ellen will always be a LESBIAN comic instead of a comic.

Loved these other critiques:

The Post described it as "a production with such an acute case of meaning-deprivation that you almost forget what's happening as it's happening".

The American national paper USA Today said the musical was "a delightful experience" but added "that is, if you leave after the first act".

It said the show - about the hedonism in the 80s London club scene - turned into "preachy melodrama in which drug abuse, Aids, gay-bashing and the perils of fame are explored with all the imagination of a TV movie-of-the-week".

Thanks for posting these. I'm not normally mean-spirited but the Queen of Mean appears to have gotten back the bad vibes that she's sent out.

Yep. Along with Schadenfreude, there's a bit of Karma going on here.

Sad and sick. Growing up isn't easy for anyone, but the fuor children Rosie and her galpal are raising are going to have a particularly difficult time of it.

I wish someone would hurt Boy George and make him cry.
