A compromise between House and Senate Republican leaders to push through the Medicare prescription-drug bill is still on table after being submitted yesterday to members on both sides of the aisle.

Leaders shopped the bill around Capitol Hill trying to persuade enough lawmakers to have the federal health program compete against private plans, but on a limited basis.

Keep ALL of the competition provisions, and let the dems kill it for this session of Congress. Then elect enough republicans to transform the program to something that can work, after the President is re-elected. It is too late to kill the program, but it needs repair and only republicans can get that job done - preferably by changing it to the kind of program that federal employees have.
