The winning numbers for Tuesday's drawing were 2-5-17-21-22 (two, five, seventeen, twenty-one, twenty-two)

I'm glad they s p e l l e d that out for us. I'd've had no idea what those numbers were.

He said he planned to buy a cabin on a lake and spend time fishing

At least he did not say he planned to keep his day job. ;-)

God love him,he's going to buy a cabin on a lake.

He could buy a castle on Lake Geneva with his winnings.

Good luck to him !!!!

The article doesn't come out and say it, but I would assume he would get 2/3 to the other winners 1/3, all it says is they will split the winnings.

I am guessing that he won 2/3 of the money. The aftertax cash payment is usually almost about half of the original prize value. So he "won" about 45 million of the 70 mil.

I'm sorry, I screwed that up. The cash option value is about half (maybe a little more) and then he is taxed on that. Either way, 26 million is about the total one would expect for winning 2/3 of a 70 million jackpot if you chose the "Cash" option.

If he was the soul winner and elected the cash option, he would have taken a one time check for about 39 million and then the gubmint would have taken their share of that.

Put me down for $100 (one hundred dollars)
He gets 2/3rds.

I don't know. I remember when MA first started their Megabucks (early 1980s). Guy bought a ticket, looked at the numbers and
didn't realized that the machine sorted the numbers. He thought that they had to be in exact order of the draw.

So, he submitted his numbers to the clerk again, and got the same sorted result.

He ended up with 2 of 7 winners, iirc.

$70 million

Wow. With my luck, I'll only win about $10 or $15 million.

Nope each ticket is a winner. He gets 2/3. His mistake should net him an extra 3.5 million or so at present value after tax.

Mr. Cooke may not admit this in a 1,000,000 (million) years, but I bet that's what happened.

He picked up his check already. They were about to give him $13 million, but had him go home and look at other tickets. He found the other winning ticket, and a few other worth $150. So they gave him $26 million, or 2/3 of the total. I expect a lawsuit from the 1/3 winner shortly.
