HOUSTON -- Radio talk show host Jon Matthews was indicted on one count of indecency with a child Wednesday, News2Houston reported.
A Fort Bend County grand jury handed down the sealed indictment Wednesday morning.
Sources told News2Houston that a teenager who lives in Matthews' Sugar Land neighborhood went to police a few weeks ago and made accusations against Matthews.
The allegations led to a grand jury investigation.
Matthews is expected to surrender to Fort Bend County officials Wednesday afternoon.
Matthews has been a staple of Houston radio as a conservative talk show host, most recently on the KSEV AM morning show. He handed in his resignation, which was accepted, Wednesday.

Talk show host Jon Matthews indicted on indecency with a child charge
By ERIC HANSONCopyright 2003 Houston ChronicleRICHMOND -- Radio talk show host Jon Matthews was arrested in Sugar Land today and charged with one count of indecency with a child.
After weeks of speculation, he was indicted by a Fort Bend County jury and taken into custody at 3 p.m. today. A news conference is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Indecency with a child is a third-degree felony.
KSEV-AM 700 pulled the 59-year-old broadcaster off the air on Oct. 24 when the station's owner learned that Matthews was being investigated by Sugar Land police because of an "allegation from a community member." He had been the host of a weekday news show from 6 to 9 a.m.
Details have been slow to emerge in the investigation, and the Houston Chronicle had requested a copy of the police report under the Texas Public Information Act. State law says police departments cannot withhold basic information such as the date and location of an alleged incident and a description of the offense.
The only detail police spokeswoman Pat Whitty would release before today was that the alleged incident happened in the 500 block of Rolling Mill, the street where Matthews lives.
Matthews appeared before the grand jury on Tuesday, followed by his wife, Carolyn.

Sad day today. I still can't bring myself to believe Jon did anything wrong until I see more information.

It's hard to believe. I think Dan Patrick did the right thing by asking for his resignation.
I hope it's not true, but even if he is innocent this is a charge that will never go away.

King Jon's career is over.
Who should take the slot? Edd Hendee? Former astronaut and sometimes host Walter Cunningham?
Maybe Dan Patrick should take the morning drive time show and put Edd or Walt on in the afternoon after Mike Richards.
Paul Bettencourt sits in as a guest host at times too, I believe.

Anyone can lead a double life or succumb to temptation. However, Jon Matthews seems like an unlikely person to have committed such an act. Anyone who listened to him over the years would probably agree.
For example, Rush Limbaugh likes to make double entendres on his show, and it's far spicier than the Jon Matthews show ever was. About as frisky as Jon ever got was talking about drinking grapefruit juice in the morning.
We'll certainly learn more about this in the upcoming days and weeks, and we'll just have to withhold judgment until then.

There's a press conference being held now that I can't find carried on the local stations.

Yep, I was watching the news.
'exposed himself' ...he could have be peeing on the side of the house (Ya know how men are!).
...or it could be something more. Calling Dick DeGuerin.

Any local FReepers want the gig? It leads into Laura Ingrahm's show.
Dan had talked in the past about running the third hour of Laura's program in the afternoon drivetime, maybe now he will give this more consideration (again, he will have to change the host schedules).

Put Laura Ingrhams on live in the mornings.

Was he indicted or convicted?
To: Dog Gone
If the grand jury came away with only one count, this ought to be easy to beat. It won't ever get his career back but I'm guessing no jail time will be involved.

Put Laura Ingrhams on live in the mornings I agree, it that possible? Where does she broadcast from and what hours is she live on the air?

The revised KSEV website offers no details.
http://www.ksevradio.com/ This isn't a change at all related to Jon's situation, it is just a statement of fact. The website used to offer bio information on the different hosts and I was looking for Harris County election information (plus recommendations) a couple of weeks ago (there wasn't anything to be found). Even Clout's website had no recommendations in the election (maybe their PAC is prohibited from such announcements at this time, I don't know).
