I quit!

Overworked employees are fed up: a survey finds 8 out of 10 Americans want a new job. November 12, 2003: 9:42 AM EST By Leslie Haggin Geary, CNN/Money Staff Writer

New York (CNN/Money) - Ready to quit? You have plenty of company.

Many employees are overworked, stressed out, fed up -- and eager to quit their jobs once the economy picks up. In fact, worker angst is so pronounced that it has surprised even the most tuned-in human resource professionals.

Consider, for example, that more than eight in 10 workers plan to look for a new job when the economy heats up, according to a survey by the Society for Human Resource Professionals. While there's a difference between looking for a new gig and actually jumping ship, that kind of number is "very, very high," says SHRP spokesman Frank Scanlon.

How did things get so bad?

To be sure, the economy hasn't helped. Cash-strapped employers have been cutting back on benefits like health care, paid vacations and retirement benefits.

Belt tightening is one thing; greed is another. In an era of Enron, mutual fund scandals and ludicrous CEO pay packages, employees know the difference, says Jeff Taylor, founder and CEO of Monster.com.

"Companies behaving badly" have been all too common during the downturn, according to Taylor.

Interesting to me. If this is to be believed, then there is the vulerablity to the President.

When employees salaries are frozen for two straight years in the name of corporate belt tightening, and your company continues to beat earnings estimates quarter after quarter, you're going to have disgruntled workers.

Just my $.02.

OVER TAXED!! Imagine if they got twice the pay they get now - and entire paycheck! I'll bet they'd like their jobs if they got to keep the other 50%, too.
Working and being forced to support those who 'choose not to work' is no fun at all!

The funny thing about job satisfaction is a report I had from CNN and the other time warner stations.

A few years ago I wrote designed and wrote some software used by CNN. The young guy that was sent to atlanta came back very surprised.

He had been to many major firms doing software installations. He said he had never ben in a company with lower employee moral than Time Warner Atlanta.

He said employee's felt they were way overworked and way underpaid and treated like dirt.

You can see it on the air. Except for a few major names, the turnover at CNN and CNN headline news is incredible. You will find local stations all over the USA staffed with people who used to work at Time Warner Stations.

There are ex time warner employees at several local ohio stations. When employees quit a national channel to work at a local station, you know the national channel sucks.

This sounds like CNN interviewing its own employees.
