I thought it was a joke, too, but it was on Foxnews. I assume it's legit. I don't know if I'll be up there. My car is not all that good. I'll have to think about it.

United Airlines (search), the world's second-largest airline, Wednesday confirmed it has named its fledgling low-cost carrier venture "Ted," as it prepares to launch the service from Denver early next year.

But wait ... it gets *worse*.

Some of you may remember that US Airways and United tried to merge a couple of years ago, and eventually had to settle merely for code-sharing.  On Wednesday, US Airways CEO David Siegel said that his airline is also considering the establishment of a low fare airline, and it has been given a working name of 'Bill'. [Yes, those of you retching in the back know where this is going ...]

Why did US Airways chose the name Bill?  Siegel explained 'Bill, is expected as an extension of our alliance with United Airlines--Ted and Bill's excellent low-cost alliance'.

The sheer inanity of this leaves me breathless, *even* taking into account the fact that these are airline CEOs we are talking about.
