Tuesday Nov. 11, 2003; 11:29 p.m. EST Billionaire Bush-basher Soros Convicted of Insider Trading
Billionaire Bush-basher George Soros has gotten a lot of press in recent days, mostly over his comments on Monday where he likened President Bush to Adolf Hitler and reiterated his promise to spend whatever it takes to defeat Bush at the polls next year.
But none of the reports mentioned one salient fact: the Democratic Party's great rich hope was convicted of insider trading less than a year ago.
Before Soros announced his intention to bankroll the Dems' bid to topple Bush, press accounts were a lot more candid about his checkered background.
Here's how the Washington Post described the Democrats' Daddy Warbucks five months ago:

I just make it a habit to stick with the posting rules as much as possible after being admonished a couple of days ago by an Admin Moderator for a rather severe personal attack on a poster I dissagreed with on the Terri Schiavo threads.

Keep an eye on Soros. We have an international criminal, billionaire who is trying to singlehandedly manipulate American elections through shady, unregulated "527" organizations. I don't think the American people will appreciate this tycoon's attempts to manipulate their elections this way.

What I'm worried about is his ability to manipulate the dollar, and therefore the economy, to bring Bush (and America) down.

Billionaires can't do it. The Hunt brothers tried to manipulate the silver market and screwed up. IIRC they lost billions in the effort and got investigated. Our economy is so much bigger than individual billionaires they really can't do it.
But if government tries to mess with a billionaire...

And, during World War II, in this nation, we had the slogan:"Loose lips sink ships". Does Soros equate the USA of 1941-1945 with NAZI Germany?
To: Dark Knight
I thought I heard somewhere that he messed with the pound, and with some Indonesian currency, and got away with it?
To: Coral Snake
I always wondered: Just how did Mr. Soros make his billions?

Didn't know how he made his money, but without government help...even a billionaire can't muck with a multi-trillion dollar economy.

We got some of our best FRreepers on his tail. Right, Gramps?

You posted: "Convicted? What was his sentence?". Here is part of what the Compost printed:
The Post continued:
"He has been accused of triggering the Asian economic crisis that began in 1997. Last year he was convicted of insider trading in France and fined $ 2.2 million, a ruling he dismissed as 'a queer decision' and promised to appeal."
I'm sure that Soros was in bed with ChIraq and $oddomite way before this happened. So ChIraq's off shore accounts got a lot richer, and Soros walked with a small fine for him. Knowing him, he hasn't paid the fine anymore than he paid the rent for his offices in Moscow.

Convicted? What was his sentence?>At least one conservative is now pitching the notion that wealthy, white collar criminals shouldn't have to go to jail for their crimes. Cal Thomas has a column out today in which he argues: "The corporate monsters who rob stockholders and employees of their jobs and careers shouldn't go to jail." A thread relating to that column can be found here.
Cal's idea just doesn't sit well with me.

Multi trillion dollar economy. Remember when it was a billion? It is all paper debt, has always been manipulated by those who run the system. When dollars were silver, the economy was measured in the millions. High interest rates manipulate it one way, low interest rates manipulate it another way. The dollar has been declining of late, due to manipulation. This is after it was manipulated higher in the last administration. But no one on the forum sees that as manipulation. As long as Greenspan is the one manipulating your fiat money all is well.
