American Indian activists and educators slammed Minnesota Education Commissioner Cheri Pierson Yecke on Monday for her take on one of American history's most controversial characters -- Christopher Columbus.
It's the latest development in the hullabaloo over the state's proposed new social studies requirements. And it's added testimony to how sensitive people are about how their ancestors are portrayed in the history books and classrooms.

Funny, I never heard these stories about Columbus. Could it be that there are historical revisionists amoung Native Americans?

"We've got to educate this lady," said activist Clyde Bellecourt. "She is totally scholastically retarded. If we allow the social studies standards to go through the way they're written, we're going to go back to the Dark Ages."How about we just go back to the 1870's and get it right this time?

Clyde Bellecourt and his brother are some of the best revisionists around. They are supported by Daniel Inouye and all advocate major repatriations to the Native Americans.
Daniel Inouye has continually pushed for the sovereign immunity of the indian nations which would completely undermine the entire people. Right now, reservations and Native American resources are controlled by thugs like Bellecourt rather than given to their people. Heck, on most reservations, there is no such thing as free speech or right to a fair trial.

Columbus was good friends with the Jewish community in Spain, was probably of recent Jewish decent, and may have been a secret Jew. A good argument can be made that one of his reasons for his explorations is that he was looking for safe refuge for the Jews, who were kicked out of Spain the day before he sailed. Certainly, the Americas have, for the most part, been a refuge.
Tell that to the left-wing activists and watch them squirm -- at least, those who aren't anti-Semitic.

I'm not surprised to hear this since the reservations are sovereign nations. I have no use for liars whoever they might be.
