US consumer confidence up on jobs outlook
Tuesday November 11, 10:00 am ET
NEW YORK, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Momentum from three months of mounting job gains has emboldened consumers' views on prospects for the U.S. economy, according to a survey published on Tuesday.
Investor's Business Daily and TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence said their monthly economic optimism index climbed to 55.9 in November from 53.3 in October.
"Americans across the board share the feeling. The positive outlook for the job market is helping to boost the sentiment," said Raghavan Mayur, president of TIPP, a unit of TechnoMetrica.
The overall gauge's outlook component, which measures views on the economy's six-month potential, improved the most this month, rising 3.7 points to 56.5.
The personal financial outlook, which gauges how respondents feel about their own personal finances in the next six months, ticked up to a 12-month high of 61.5 in November from 58.8 in October.
The survey, which is based on over 900 interviews, was conducted in the first week of November. TechnoMetrica said it is the first reading of consumer confidence each month and predicts with 90 percent reliability changes in the better-known Conference Board and University of Michigan consumer confidence surveys.
