Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards rolled out a new commercial in Iowa and New Hampshire on Monday, continuing his onslaught of TV advertising in hopes of sparking his campaign. The 30-second spot highlights his "Real Solutions for America," including his proposals for health care, jobs and education, and aims to get voters to look at his Web site to find out more. His campaign called the ad buy in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Manchester, N.H. substantial, but would not provide details. Spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri said the ad will run in both states "for a while." Edwards has bought airtime in media markets in both states since the summer, but has steered from the most expensive markets, such as Boston, which reaches viewers in southern New Hampshire. The North Carolina senator has spent more than $1.5 million in both Iowa and New Hampshire combined, but the investment hasn't shown up in state polls. His support has been at less than 10 percent in surveys of likely voters in Iowa and New Hampshire, and he trails the front-runners there. His strategy in the two states relies on solid finishes that would give him momentum for a win in South Carolina, where he was born, and other states with Feb. 3 primaries. Iowa holds its caucuses Jan. 19; New Hampshire's primary is Jan. 27.
