What are those Black and Blue stickers on cars?

I've begun noticing a lot of cars with stickers on them like the red and white "diving" or "diver" flag stickers that have been around for some time. These are basically the same size with the top and bottom bars being black and the middle bard being a dark blue.

That's the "Cop Flag", aka the "Thin Blue Line". It means that the owner/driver of the car that bears it is a cop, a member of a cop's family, or is somehow related to cops. In other words, it lets other cops know that the person behind the wheel is on the job and should be given special consideraton.

I've seen that sticker on a lot of cars around here. I thought it meant that the person was either in law enforcement or else a rescue worker or firefighter. It took me quite awhile before I started figuring it out.

That's a bit broad. My boss has one on his car because his son-in-law is a police officer. My boss is never "on the job" but I kid him from time to time about having a "get out of jail free" sticker on his car.
