Local source leads paratroopers to weapons cache
AL FALLUJAH, Iraq Paratroopers from the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment found a large weapons cache 20 miles northeast of Al Fallujah Nov 6. The troops received the information about the cache from a local sheik. The sheik, who has worked with coalition forces in the past, brought in a laser-guided anti-tank missile when he supplied the information.
The coalition soldiers confiscated three complete 82mm mortar systems, 66 60mm mortar rounds, 60 82mm mortar rounds, 50 120mm fuses, 1260 14.5mm rounds, 1000 14.5mm armor-piercing rounds, 1155 14.5mm high-energy rounds, 183 20mm high-energy rounds, 10 RPG rounds and six RPG launchers. The troops brought the weapons to their base and will continue to investigate the surrounding area.
More often every day Iraqi civilians are working with Coalition forces to find illegal arms throughout the country. With continued cooperation between the local populace and coalition forces, the frequency of attacks against international forces in Iraq will decrease rapidly.

You simply have it all wrong. The quagmire in Iraq is predicated on the fact that the Iraqi's hate America, and all things American, and they will drive us out at any cost. It must be so, I read it in the Boston Globe which is a subsidiary of the New York Times!

Paratroopers from the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment Not sure, but something tells me they were probably from the Combat Support Company...and probably mortar maggots at that!

There's no junkle between Syria/Iran and Baghdad. When the arms are gone, there's no Ho-Chi-Min trail there by which to secretly supply more. There will just be a bunch of shiftless, powerless, fanatical barbarians sitting around looking alot like ducks... and a whole lot of well-armed, well-trained, ultra-conditioned, pissed-off Marines looking for a whole lotta Pay-back!
One little, two little, three little Syrians...

Fourdeuce,
How old are you?
There haven't been CSCs on the TOE since the mid 80s. Battalion Mortars are in the HHC. And they have been 81mm for at least as long.

We had 4 deuce here at Ft Lewis when I got out in 1991 - and they were part of the CSC. HHC didn't have anything - no scouts, no mortars, no snipers, just commo dinks, truck drivers, medics, and supply/PAC types.
That was light infantry, maybe mech or heavy is different.

9th ID? Or 2nd Ranger Battalion?
Motorized MTOE was different than mech, light, or abn/aaslt.
2ID MTOEs were slightly different back then also.

I'm grateful to the sheik for continuing to help our troops locate these caches. This haul represents a LOT of lives saved.
