Washington -- Democrats made clear Thursday they intend to block California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown from the nation's highest appellate court, even as she won 10-9 party-line approval of her nomination by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Brown, an outspoken African American conservative and the daughter of an Alabama sharecropper, became the latest lightning rod for opposition to President Bush's conservative court nominees as her home-state senator, Dianne Feinstein, led the united Democratic opposition to the judge's confirmation on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Her language has come back to haunt her, particularly one highly quoted passage Feinstein read aloud to the committee: "Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates, and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is families under siege, war in the streets, unapologetic expropriation of property, the precipitous decline of the rule of law, the rapid rise of corruption, the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

If DiFi doesn't understand the truth of this statement, then she is the one who doesn't belong in government.

But Brown's speeches and judicial opinions . . . reflect a world view too hostile to government for appointment to a court that decides so many matters of government policy, Feinstein said.

Only police statists need apply.

And the Republicans will do nothing about it. They are the majority and act like the minority.

This fight over the judiciary is probably the most important political battle of our time -- even more crucial than the War on Terror, IMHO. It is for this fight alone that we need to work to re-elect President Bush, and Barbara Boxer in California next year.

You got that right. I wonder what McCauliff and/or Daschle offered him to about face. Of course, he's so stupid, he probably never thought to get something in trade for position-switching.

I for one favor this Democratic scorched earth policy. I seriously believe there will be an 80-20 balance in our favor in the senate in my lifetime. I only hope the Republicans in the Senate have balls then.

This is how the "Two-Party Cartel" is suppose to work. The pols money sources do not want any conservativism to obstruct their agenda.

Well, if there are 80 GOP members some day in the Senate, we would hope that 51 of those members might have a spine.

If DiFI finds this reprehensible, all she needs to do is look outside her office window. Kinda describes D.C. pretty well, dontcha think?

Information is slowly leaking out of the Congress that Mr. and Mrs. Average American are very aware of what is going on with Bush's judicial nominees and the way they are being treated by the Dems. Many more Americans than previously thought have expressed their outrage at their elected representatives in the Congress and they are just waiting for next year's election to exact their retribution at the ballot box.

The Dems will discover that there is a price to pay for their obstructionism.

LOL.

Such behaviour by the Democrat Party Operatives in the Senate is going to burn them soooo badly.

Righteousness will win in the end--and these pro-infanticide, anti-achievement Liberal Plantation bigots will lose so much, they won't believe it.

Whether they will see it trickle away or if they'll lose it in one fell swoop, I don't know. But I do know they're on the wrong side of history and godliness--not unlike other failed ideologies. Their power is diminishing and will continue to diminish.

Break out the cots. The battle lines have been drawn in the Senate for the chamber’s first all-night political brawl in more than a decade, with both sides spoiling for a fight next week over the judicial confirmation process.

It's becoming more clear to me that the ballot box isn't working.
