"(Ironically, an actual, physical attack on a U.S. city resulting in significant loss of life would almost certainly doom AQ; if a U.S. city were to be destroyed or seriously contaminated, the political pressure on the President for a retaliatory action of the most severe kind against a broad set of Islamic targets would be almost irresistable.)"
Actually, I quite agree with you on this. IF there was a devastating attack that destroyed an American city, with large loss of life, Mecca and Medina would be turned into green glass within 24 hours. Damascus would be history as well as Teheran. And Indonesia might start to glow considerably in the western sky. I don't see such a major attack on an American City or population center (besides the obvious military retaliation, there would be wholesale attacks on Moslems here in the U.S. by outraged and enraged American citizens, and innocents could be harmed; I don't think the islamists would want that: but maybe I'm wrong). More likely, though, all the islamist schools and "madrassas" that have begun sprouting up in this country, all of which sow hatred of America and the West, would likely become smoldering heaps of rubble.

Corbis is a stock photo/images agency, one of the largest in the world. It is wholly owned by Microsoft. The Corbis watermark on the photo means that whoever put the graphic together just ripped the thumbnail image off the Corbis website instead of paying for and downloading the actual high-res photo. Since such images are easily accessible and are fine for online graphics, Corbis puts a digital watermark over every image on their site to discourage just this sort of piracy. (I used to work for Westlight, a large West Coast stock agency which was absorbed by Corbis several years ago. )

Looks like somebody's paying attention to these threats.Anyone want to wager that we go "orange" by the end of the day?

It looks like South Carolina to me. Any SC Freepers out there? Has there been a mass exodus of Muslimes from your state? That's Saudi Arabia, not South Carolina. Sheesh.

Some kind of standoff at airport in Manila just reported on CNN.

That's Saudi Arabia, not South Carolina. Sheesh. That doesn't look like Saudi Arabia to me. The photo shows a relatively small land mass that is surround by water. Saudi Arabia only has water on two sides and is much larger than the land mass depicted in the photo. It looks like Staten Island to me with Brooklyn on the right.

I thought that also, looks like an island.

"I do recommend, however, enjoying a good bacon-and-eggs breakfast first. Let the grease cool before dipping the bullets, and be sure to clean the gun carefully after using it so as to not attract ants."
Excellent point I forgot about the ants. Thanks

It's Iraq; - with the scales of justice?Don't think so, my friend. Iraq is practically landlocked. The landmass in the montage is almost completely surrounded by water.
To: Labyrinthos
It's a background.

Looking north from Saudi, the white area nearest is Kuwait - the scales are over Iran.

Damascus would be history as well as Teheran. And Indonesia might start to glow considerably in the western sky. I think there is no chance at all that Bush would do this.

Although I always thought the US should come up with some weapons that could be launched at sea and drill their way underneath enemy cities. And then just wait there for the signal, in case we ever need them. Don't see how it could be implmented but very cool!

OK, I see it now. That's not water, but rather a background matting. Saudi Arabia it is.
