Kinda like being brutally murdered, which happens quite frequently here in Houston.

Well, lets all be really blase! I suppose the systematic torture, rape and killing of women in Iraq was all hype as well? I think that "rape rooms" and Iraqi torture chamber have been hyped to the public in order to buttress support for the war, yes. To say something is hype doesn't mean there is no truth to it. It just means a lot of noise is being made about it for a reason.
I have the highest regard for Lynch and her will to serve. That is no hype.
Or for any other American servicemen and women, no doubt. I don't know why that should change just because the Army brass and some in the media have hyped this story for their own reasons.

"Jessica Lynch was brutally raped by her Iraqi captors. That is the shocking revelation in "I Am a Soldier, Too,"
Um, what is so shocking about a captor being raped?

Your calling is definitely a lawyer. FOAD Hehe. Couple of lawyers in my family already. Not my cup of tea. Too much paperwork. What is FOAD?

Ever hear of forensics? Does a dead body have a memory? Because it can not remember dying is the body now not dead?
To: Xenalyte
Brutally murdered and brutally raped also sends me into a spin. How about when they use the word "savagely" raped/murdered.
To: Huck
FOAD=> F is the usual Old English epithet and D is the opposite of life. The O and A are simply articles.
99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name. FOAD

"Savagely" is another good one, although it doesn't seem to get the play that "brutally" does.

I agree. "Burtally" gets a bigger play.

Most rape is confirmed by physical evidence. I'm assuming that they found three sets of little soldiers and the usually bruising which happens when penetration is neither gentle nor welcome.

brutally raped" a redundancy? Can someone be gently raped? Tenderly raped? Humanely raped? well, there actually is a "taxonomy" of rapists- some use the threat of violence alone, and break off the attack if they are given resistance- some other enjoy having a woman struggle, and use violence to subdue the victim. Others ALWAYS use violence, often of horrific levels, simpley because they like it.

FOAD=> F is the usual Old English epithet and D is the opposite of life. The O and A are simply articles. 99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name. FOAD Gotcha. Damn, man, that's a little harsh, isn't it? All I am saying is that I was all for fryin' the Iraqi thugs without this story. I didn't need it. It didn't move me. I would much rather hear stories of our guys tearing the enemy into little pieces and feeding them to dogs than to hear about one private getting rescued from some screw up. No offense meant to her, or anyone else serving in that hell hole.
I just think that they put this story out in the first place to be consumed by America, to get a reaction. And now folks are just trying to make money off it. It is no different at this point than Lacy Peterson. Sex mixed with violence. The usual media shit cocktail, this time served up with a flag.
I can see all the fake, phony "shock and disgust" from every tee vee show and radio program all day long, just tickled pink that this story is going to help them sell ad space and goose up their Arbitron ratings.
Like I said, I am a cynic. And I guess I came across as blase. My bad. But FOAD?

Um, what is so shocking about a captor being raped? Exactly!
The NOW Nags will never admit that they pushed their agenda too far.

But apparently, you can murder someone without actually hating them, as we have been taught by hate crime legislation. I'll rest easier in my grave, knowing that the person who murdered me didn't actually HATE me...
To: fourdeuce82d
Actually, I remember a bill in NJ statehouse that was making the penalties for rape and sexual abuse harsher, and they had gradations that all were being increased. I called up my state reps and a) congratulated them for supporting the harsher penalties but b) asked them why the hell they don't ALL get the harshest penalties. I know there's theories about "incentivizing" a rapist to be gentler or something, but man, I'd like to see them all hang.

I agree on that. Add this to the list of things I don't need or want to know.
To: Sub-Driver
Two conclusions:
1) Women soldiers should not be sent into combat zones.
2) The Iraqi supporters of Saddam Hussein are sub-human monsters and should be treated as such. Every lamppost in Bagdad should have Baathist bodies dangling from it. In a brutal part of the world, they are outstanding in their viciousness. Subhumans.
Meanwhile, we are courtmartialing an American soldier for firing a pistol off near the head of one of these monsters. He should have emptied it into the guy's leg, then strangled him after he got the information out of him. These people are scum. Scum.

"Is it just me, or is "brutally raped" a redundancy? Yes; this has been confirmed by the Department of Redundancy Department." It would be rare for a female captive NOT to be raped in a wartime situation such as existed in Iraq. That's among the first things they do. However, I agree that "brutally" is repetitive/ It's a little like that ALEVE pain-reliever commercial where the guy limps up the front steps and tells his wife that he has "painful arthritis." As opposed to what, "painless arthritis?" Or "pleasant-feeling arthritis?"
