I worry about Michael Foale and the two cosmonauts on the ISS

I am as well.

They must be catching several lifetimes worth of X-ray and particle bombardment.

I understand that they spend only 20 minutes working and then go to the Russian module that has the best shielding.

As for this sudden rash of spots, I am somewhat concerned, but I see no major differences in behavior of the sun over the last 80 or so years, except that this occurred suddenly and after a real calm period. The sun usually settles down after a field reversal for a few years.

Looks like it is not done yet, but it should be.

They must spend half of each orbit (daylight portion) in the "sheltered" portion of the ISS. I really doubt that it provides much.

The neutrons and energetic gamma rays will just pass right through that wimpy little station (and it's occupants).

People around here say not to worry, the charged particles are shielded by the earth's magnetosphere. But I can't help but thing there is a lot of bremsstrahlung, compton scattering, pair production, and secondary gamma emission going on.
