They must spend half of each orbit (daylight portion) in the "sheltered" portion of the ISS. I really doubt that it provides much.

The neutrons and energetic gamma rays will just pass right through that wimpy little station (and it's occupants).

People around here say not to worry, the charged particles are shielded by the earth's magnetosphere. But I can't help but thing there is a lot of bremsstrahlung, compton scattering, pair production, and secondary gamma emission going on.
