Given seperation of powers, who would be given responsibility for an inquiry?

I didn't notice anything in the story about the dems planning to release classified intel. That's the whole "beauty" of it (from the 'Rat perspective). They only have to threaten to do so, or advocate investigations that might do so. They will depend on the administration to protect the security of intelligence information, but in doing so they (the administration) can be made to appear to be "hiding something" or "obstructing justice".
The best and most effective 'Rat strategies are those based on the assumption their opponents will behave honorably and responsibly. Our best strategies are based on the opposite assumption.

"Get it out NOW, bring it up, and bring it up, and bring it up, over and over again."
Exactly. Whatever "intelligence" that Hillary is hoping to mangle for the 2004 election needs to be repeated over and over again. And? We need repeat the talking points from Hillary's foray into Senate Intelligence Committee espionage ourselves .
Nothing works like the Clintonian "old news" spin, you know. By the time the election rolls around, they'll have shot their entire wad (with a little help from our side).

This has gone passed the point of partisan politics and is entering the realm of sedition.

That's significant enough, but if the source of this memo can document the willingness of Intelligence Committee Democrats to use classified material, or to declassify material for use in partisan attacks, we may be looking at criminal charges.I guess if we had to investigate this war throughly, we'd better to go back to Clinton bombing Iraq for it's WMD's as well. After all, that's why he attacked, too. Right? The Clinton administration told us about Saddams WMD's for 8 long years. Where did he get his information to brief Bush?

What I think is fascinating is that someone wanted the world to know how seditious/repulsive the Dims are, to what extent they want to betray the country in their thirst for power.

They will kill our own to gain power. Exactly. The Democrats are the party of death. (Of course, dead people make up a bunch of their voting base, so I suppose for them, that's logical.)

Rockefeller's staff says this was a "draft memo taken from a wastebasket." A draft of what? If this was the early version, what did the final version look like? I won't believe that it looked nothing like the draft.

The Republicans have
never mastered the art of legislative dominance and they never will. They consistently fail to crack the whip on rogue members in both the Senate
and the House. It should not come as a surprise to anyone that the committee staffs are aligned with Democrats whether they are on the majority or minority. Republicans rather consistently make better managers of the executive function and sometimes a divided government is better, if noisier.
Politics is neither polite nor honest. It is a shame that the idea of the citizen taking the time to serve in public office will never again be possible. We have nothing but a corrupt political class that just keeps on helping themselves. Until the voters decide enough is enough it will never stop...and the Democrats have always been better at paying for the privilege to steal...Republicans are usually too afraid of the consequence.

The Senate Select Intelligence Committee became an issue during the second "power sharing" debate in 2002 after the Republicans re-retook the Senate. Roberts was decrying the Democrats attempt to politicize the committee (he said that they had traditionally been non-partisan but Democrats wanted separate staffs and budgets now).
So, now this. It looks like they were playing the Chairman for a chump all along. And, it also looks like Roberts is more interested in maintaining his fantasy of bi-partisanship on the Intelligence committee than in believing what his own eyes are telling him.

I don't actually believe it was a "draft" either.

I sure hope Pat Roberts has realized he's being used by these people ..??
It's time for the repubs to go nuclear on these idiots.
To: michigander
A "set-up" you say? Did you catch an outraged Roberts on Fox, and the lame excuses issued by Rockefeller? Something tells me the Intelligence Committee will never be the same, and Rockefeller (who has not denied that the memo came from his office) has done the nation, our intelligence agencies, and our armed forces a despicable service. If Lott was hounded from his position for much less, Rockefeller should be ridden out of town on a rail.

Apparently, we did not watch the same show. By the time the interview was concluded Roberts no longer bothered to hide his anger.
Bipartisanship in the Intelligence Committee is now over, and Republicans should unite to force Rockefeller's resignation from the Committee. What is good for Lott is good for Rockefeller.

It's time for the repubs to go nuclear on these idiots.I'll bet they spent this whole night on the phone to each other. Rove must be totally P.O'd! My guess is they're working on the check mate right now.
To: gaspar
Maybe Rockefeller was angry at being shown up on Fox News Sunday a few weeks ago.

I saw Hannity interviewing Pat Roberts on this issue tonight. What a warm turd. He's being used by the Dems every which way and his response? We must come together and find common ground. Don't the Senate Republicans know that these guys are playing with real bullets?
To: Sabertooth
LOL you go that right.
