Liberals like to fantasize about being in a cosmic Manichaean struggle with evil, mean-spirited conservatives. It's very much part of liberal mythology and far-left subcultures.

And sadly, many conservatives promote this fantasy with regards to gays, by carrying on their own loud fantasies about how ALL gays are wildly promiscuous, zealots for socialism, out to recruit little boys to their orientation, etc. Sure there are some gays like that, but there are also plenty like Marc Christian, who care about honesty and justice. He (and many like him) would turn conservative in a heartbeat if he felt more welcome in conservative circles, and we'd be better off for having him.

I think that that man is an honorable person. I thank him for his comments about one of our GREATEST PRESIDENTS!

No, not really. The liberal fantasy is more bizarre, more paranoid, more delusional.

"Was Kind To Dying Hudson"

Which is the only course of action of any decent person.

Yes, Christian's coming forth with this is honorable and to his credit, but it is the only course of action for any decent person.

Reagan was always, as far as I know, a good and decent man. God bless him and his family.

My best friend through high school and university was FLAMINGLY gay-this guy was flaming like a Liberace chandelier. And the weird thing is, he's even more conservative than I am on most issues (except abortion). In fact, he introduced me to Rush!

Not to brag, but I was the first to point out on this site that the Reagans were close friends with Hudson. It's not something that I should have had to point out, however.

You shouldn't presume to speak for him. He holds very liberal views but was so impressed by Reagan's gesture that he decided to step forward.

Who knows? There's probably a large segment of the gay and lesbian population who are politically and culturally conservative, but are afraid of coming out of the political closet. Thank goodness Andrew Sullivan, Tammy Bruce, Jonathan Rauch and others are helping to blow open all closet doors.

No one is too thrilled with this biopic, except Barbra and her ilk. Nice that Christian came forward to defend the President on this.

Yes, but many people -- gays, atheists, etc. -- have come to hold their liberal views because they have been shoved into liberal social circles by hostile conservatives who make it clear they're not welcome. People's belief systems aren't as innate as they like to imagine.

So who's going to be the first Freeper to castigate Reagan for this?

It'll have to be someone who doesn't understand the statement, "Hate the sin, love the sinner."
