But here's another solution: Why not set up a center for these immigrants, run by both non-Arab and Arab Christians, with the sole purpose of helping these immigrants acclamate to the American way of doing things? You might have a chance to witness to some of these people, and win their hearts by serving them.

I think you are seeing too much good in people which is not there. The slimiest terrorist will smile in your face as he blows up that dynamite belt. You truly have to be realistic. I have less of a problem with Latinos simply coming and living on the dole than I do Arabs looking to kill my kids. However, if one gives to one group, we must give to all.
At this point, enforsing the immigration laws is a matter of security.

In my experience, people do not value what they haven't had to work for. What they can steal, they value even less.

It's actually quite simple. The rules exist. They work. There are some people who don't care, or are desparate enough (for whatever reason) to break the rules. To tell these people that, "It's OK. Now that you're here you can stay." is criminally dangerous. It tells everyone else that our laws don't mean a damned thing, and that we don't value our citizenship-- and neither should they.

And by the way: I pay for that "press one for English" message, and it pisses me off!
