The 18 pills Jessica Lynch swallows every day are not enough to dull the pain that keeps her awake at night. The former prisoner of war has several scars, including a jagged one on her scalp and a deep one on her right forearm that could be a bullet hole, according to the December issue of Vanity Fair. She wears special shoes, has a brace on her left leg and when she manages a few steps, it's with the help of crutches. The blond private who became America's darling after her rescue during the Iraq war undergoes two hours of physical therapy five days a week, but still has no feeling in her left foot. Nevertheless, Lynch is determined to walk down the aisle for her wedding next summer. She already has managed the first 30 steps, Vanity Fair reports. The article gives a peek at Lynch's life now that she's recovering, but there is no interview with her. In the tightly controlled public relations campaign previewing her book, "I Am a Soldier, Too," the first interviews were saved for ABC's Diane Sawyer on Veterans Day and NBC's Katie Couric the next day, Nov. 12. Lynch, a country girl who joined the Army so she could afford college tuition, stands to pocket at least $500,000 from her tell-all biography when it comes out later this month. The article shows a resilient woman who was engulfed by the nation's affection and deluged with 30,000 gifts - including presents from Sawyer and Couric. The gifts - cookie boxes, homemade blankets and pillows, teddy bears, even other soldiers' medals - were scanned and catalogued so Lynch could mail well-wishers a thank you note, a Wirt County, W.Va, deputy sheriff told the Daily News. "People all over the world sent stuff to Jessica, but as a security measure, we had to open all the gifts before she could have them," said the deputy, one of the four men in the local sheriff's department. Many of the gifts have landed in Lynch's wheelchair-accessible room, including a maroon blanket given to her by actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. On Lynch's bedpost are special ops Barbie and Ken dolls. On the wall hangs a photo of Lori Piestewa, the fellow soldier and Army buddy who went to war with Lynch but never came back.
I don't recall the article mentioning much about her rehab schedule or his schedule (he was on a pretty tight schedule because he's on his own book tour promoting his own book...which of course no one went into hissy fits over).
I almost had hopes that this thread would actually show a little compassion for this soldier.

Lynch's Iraqi Rescuer Visits Her Hometown
The Lynch family's attorney Stephen Goodwin said the 20-year-old former Army supply clerk was too busy with five-day-a-week rehabilitation from her injuries and commitments related to next month's release of her book, "I Am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story."
"Jessica Lynch is deeply thankful to Mohammed," Stephen Goodwin said. "She looks forward to a private meeting with him in the near future."
I don't think that's possible with some here and their precious agendas.
Heck, all you have to do now to be a 'hero' is sleep through a Humvee crash and wake up in the hospital.
Why don't we just substitute the word 'hero' for 'person'. Just do a find-and-replace in every article....
I never read the story on FR or anywhere else (until now) after I searched for it on Yahoo News.
However, it was brought to my attention via Fox News this past weekend in repeats of Pvt. Lynch snubbing the lawyer responsible for her rescue.
With the relentless attacks on Lynch and others that don't deserve to be attacked, I'm beginning to think the right doesn't have moral superiority anymore. What's the difference between liberals attacking the productive of our society through their socialist agendas, and conservatives attacking our soldiers who served with honor due to their agendas? I remember ten years ago conservatives stood for people like Lynch and victims of crime, now they just join the chorus of false accusors no different than a lot of liberals.
But I've seen at least one headline and a whole lot of people claim that was a snub.
Seems to be numerous double standards that are applied to this young private.
I've read the good news now I'm going to leave this thread before I get disgusted. Take care.
