"Transcript of Joint Bush/Blair Press Conference!!"

"Q Thank you, Mr. President, Mr. Prime Minister. Mr. President, when you talk about peace in the Middle East, you've often said that freedom is granted by the Almighty. Some people who share your beliefs don't believe that Muslims worship the same Almighty. I wonder about your views on that. And, Mr. Prime Minister, as a man also of faith, I'd like to get your reaction to that.

PRESIDENT BUSH: I do say that freedom is the Almighty's gift to every person. I also condition it by saying freedom is not America's gift to the world. It's much greater than that, of course. And I believe we worship the same God.

PRIME MINISTER BLAIR: And I believe that if people are given the chance to have freedom, whatever part of the world they're in, whatever religion they practice, whatever faith they have, if they're given the chance to have freedom, they welcome it. And I think it is the most appalling delusion that actually affects some people even within our own societies that somehow, though we in our countries love freedom and would defend freedom, somehow other people in other parts of the world don't like it. And the reason why they like freedom is because then, if you've got freedom and democracy, and the rule of law, you can raise your family, you can earn a decent standard of living, you can go about your daily business without fear of the secret police or terrorism. And in those types of societies, the terrorists who thrive on hatred and fanaticism, they get no breathing ground, they get no breathing space. And the really important thing -- and I just wanted to say this about the President's speech yesterday, because I hope -- people sometimes say to me, well, you've got a Republican President, a center-left government here in Britain, how can you two guys work together? On this issue, I believe people from whatever side of the political spectrum they're on can respond to the call that in the end, the best security we can have is not just through our armed forces and intelligence services, magnificent though they are, but actually through our values, through the spread of those values of freedom and justice and tolerance throughout the world. And the case the President made yesterday I think is a really powerful call, not just to people in our own countries, but to people right throughout the world, that these are basic human values. They're not the -- in the ownership exclusively of America or Britain or the West or any particular religion, they're human values. And actually, every time you give people the chance to have those values, they opt for them. Of course they do, because they're the values that sustain the human spirit."

(A 45 is a small vinyl record with a big hole in the center. You would call it an old-fashioned CD with one song on it.)

"...we're also blessed to have such intelligent & sensible folks as...the Richmond-area Freepers to lead in the War Against Liberalism."

I agree...what an interesting convergence of viewpoints it was today, when everybody was genuinely supporting Dubyuh's War on Terrorism but equally-genuinely disappointed by Bush's seeming inability to muster the gumption to reign in Federal spending!! All good folks who love this Country, but unanimously frustrated by the failure--to date--of a President I think we all admire and would love to trust.

Lib'ralism is ripe to be toppled, and the conservative RightWing--within and outside of the Republican Party--is primed to do the heavy-lifting required to make said toppling a reality. We just need our leaders to trust US to make it a reality between now and November 2004!! I believe a second conservative Contract With America that describes an achievable Domestic Agenda for Dubyuh's Second Term (with a filibuster-proof Senate and dramatic gains in the House) would go a long way towards energizing the base!!

FReeRepublic's got the imaginative minds to develop a 10-point draft plan to git us started...anybody up fer hosting a thread?!

REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA
As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives.
That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print.

This year's election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.

Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act "with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right." To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves.

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.
Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.

1. THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an out- of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses. (Bill Text) (Description)

2. THE TAKING BACK OUR STREETS ACT: An anti-crime package including stronger truth-in- sentencing, "good faith" exclusionary rule exemptions, effective death penalty provisions, and cuts in social spending from this summer's "crime" bill to fund prison construction and additional law enforcement to keep people secure in their neighborhoods and kids safe in their schools. (Bill Text) (Description)

3. THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: Discourage illegitimacy and teen pregnancy by prohibiting welfare to minor mothers and denying increased AFDC for additional children while on welfare, cut spending for welfare programs, and enact a tough two-years-and-out provision with work requirements to promote individual responsibility. (Bill Text) (Description)

4. THE FAMILY REINFORCEMENT ACT: Child support enforcement, tax incentives for adoption, strengthening rights of parents in their children's education, stronger child pornography laws, and an elderly dependent care tax credit to reinforce the central role of families in American society. (Bill Text) (Description)

5. THE AMERICAN DREAM RESTORATION ACT: A S500 per child tax credit, begin repeal of the marriage tax penalty, and creation of American Dream Savings Accounts to provide middle class tax relief. (Bill Text) (Description)

6. THE NATIONAL SECURITY RESTORATION ACT: No U.S. troops under U.N. command and restoration of the essential parts of our national security funding to strengthen our national defense and maintain our credibility around the world. (Bill Text) (Description)

7. THE SENIOR CITIZENS FAIRNESS ACT: Raise the Social Security earnings limit which currently forces seniors out of the work force, repeal the 1993 tax hikes on Social Security benefits and provide tax incentives for private long-term care insurance to let Older Americans keep more of what they have earned over the years. (Bill Text) (Description)

8. THE JOB CREATION AND WAGE ENHANCEMENT ACT: Small business incentives, capital gains cut and indexation, neutral cost recovery, risk assessment/cost-benefit analysis, strengthening the Regulatory Flexibility Act and unfunded mandate reform to create jobs and raise worker wages. (Bill Text) (Description)

9. THE COMMON SENSE LEGAL REFORM ACT: "Loser pays" laws, reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform of product liability laws to stem the endless tide of litigation. (Bill Text) (Description)

10. THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT: A first-ever vote on term limits to replace career politicians with citizen legislators. (Description)

Further, we will instruct the House Budget Committee to report to the floor and we will work to enact additional budget savings, beyond the budget cuts specifically included in the legislation described above, to ensure that the Federal budget deficit will be less than it would have been without the enactment of these bills.

Respecting the judgment of our fellow citizens as we seek their mandate for reform, we hereby pledge our names to this Contract with America.

I thought of you last night! Did you see Oreilly with Dickie Morris and ...Brinkley, the historian(usually liberal) They were actually talking about Clinton's secret police and how his group of WH cronies are now in a conspiracy to take out Bush by setting up all these shell "foundations" and hiring the some ol' bunch of crooked private eyes. Brinkley didn't disagree and acted as if he's disgusted in the democrats, especially the Clinton's. This may just come out afterall...we really need to pound O'reilly on this because he seemed skeptical...like it was just too much to believe. oreilly@foxnews.com

I don't put anything past Slick Willie and his goons...anybody who figgers Clinton's gonna just fade off into the sunset just doesn't understand what a Sociopath he really is. Fortunately, I believe Dubyuh's bright enuff and disciplined enuff to mind his P's and Q's fer at least the eight years he's got scheduled fer the White House, so the snoops are gonna come up dry, but I would like to learn more about the scumbags who are trying to pin something on him!!

"Brinkley didn't disagree and acted as if he's disgusted in the democrats, especially the Clinton's."

Anybody with a lick of decency should be disgusted with the whole RAT Party...they've subjugated themselves to the whims of the lowlife ClintonCadre and are nothing but a Party of Scandal- and Fear-mongering. Nothing positive EVER comes outta the RAT Party anymore...NOTHING!!

"This may just come out afterall...we really need to pound O'Reilly on this because he seemed skeptical...like it was just too much to believe."

Has the toe-sucker written anything on it?! I missed O'Reilly but I sure would like to find out more about what he was referencing. In any event, thanks fer stopping by and don't be a stranger!!
