WELCOME BACK, 'Dru!!!
BTW, I DID find the Eels CD's at the local Borders. But they don't look like my kinda group. Picked up some early 60's Motown collections, though.
Amen sister!
While that's a very kind thing for you to say, Mud, on the other hand I really don't believe you'd care to know what's been going through my head regarding recent political developements?
Nope, not a bit.
>...my 1st degree red belt testing; which, I'm pleased to say I earned, tonight."
"Congratulations...yer moving right on up that ladder, I'm proud of ya!!"
Thank you kindly, my friend.
Y'know, by this time next year the belt will be a black one with a roman numeral "I".
Of course all assumes everything goes exactly the way I've planned &, my health holding out.
We shall see.
One thing's for certain, it's within striking distance.
>...with K in Milw visiting her folks until Sunday, I'm alone to run amok for the upcoming weekend. This pissant town's in for it, too. :o)
"First off, why're K's folks in Milwaukee?...long way from Myrtle Beach!!"
It's Xmas, sonny.
Her siblings & their offspring all live in Milwaukee, minus "The Brat," who resides in London.
So you see?
"And what the heck are you gonna do to terrorize that quiet Indianny town you call home?!"
It sure wouldn't take much to disturb "the force" around these parts.
Hell's bells Mud, hanging one's butt out the back door with a good case of flatulance would be all it'd take to get 'em worked into a real *good* lather, alright. {g}
"LOL...yer not gonna go all to all yer neighbors in that speedo of yers again, demanding access to their pools, are ya?!!"
HA!!
None of that Polar Bear Club crap for me, bucko.
(~like the proverbial dog with an old shoe, aren'tcha? :o) )
Damned lucky for Mrs.Mud you're not my neighbor, pal.
Not only would I show up at your front door in a speedo, it'd be a red one with white faux fur trim; &, the hat? It'd look just like *Santa's*.
Guarenteed to scare the hell outa your beautiful bride, no doubt, while your kids would howl with laughter.
>Going through my pings, yes, I see the man passed on.
"He spoke fer a lot of us...I often argued against what I described as his 'cynicism'..."
Now why does that tack (coming from you) sound so damned familiar to me, hmmm?
"...but poet was more on-target with his predictions than I've ever been."
I'd have to agree with that statement.
"Yeah, I'm a hopeless romantic, but I'll certainly miss my discussions with Brother John!!"
You'll have those discussions again, that's His promise.
Right?
And as for the "hopeless romantic" question?
Your bride would agree with me when I tell you don't change.
Naturally there'll be those whose "main springs" are wound a tad too tight who'll read meaning into your romantacism or project their own defects into your intention(s); but, we know the truth.
You're just an anachronism, is all.
"Of course he is...then again, "sparhawk" (poet's son)visited our "Tribute Thread to Poet" and explained that Mr. Lindsey's death was both unexpected and much premature."
Whadda way to go.
John certainly must've made an unusually good impression on Him, that He'd take him in such a quick, painless & compassionate manner.
That's really all I can say.
~eh, shifting gears a bit on you now, OK?
I read a few dozen comments preceeding this entry & I found myself *inspired* to submit to you a couple songs you might find worthy of freepin'.
Of course that'd be up to you, but do tell me what'cha think, anyway.
---------
She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
Oh Look Out!
She came in through the bathroom window, protected by a silver spoon
But now she sucks her thumb and wonders, by the banks of her own lagoon
Didn't anybody tell her, didn't anybody see, Sunday's on the phone to Monday, Tuesday's on the phone to me
She said she'd always been a dancer, she worked at fifteen clubs a day
And though she thought I knew the answer, well I knew, what I could not say
And so I quit the Police Department, and got myself a steady job
And though she tried her best to help me, she could steal, but she could not rob,
Didn't anybody tell her, didn't anybody see
Sunday's on the phone to Monday, Tuesday's on the phone to me, Oh yeah!!
Golden Slumbers
Once there was a way, to get back homeward, Once there was a way, to get back home.
Sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby
Golden slumbers fill your eyes, smiles awake you when you rise sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby
Once there was a way, to get back homeward, Once there was a way, to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby

...capiche? ;^)
Thank you kindly, my friend.
I trust you're doing well this holiday season?
I noticed you'd pinged me to the thread dealing with Hitlery & her shenanagan showing up in Iraq.
Truth is I really don't have anything to say beside that one never lets me down & has always exceeded my expectation(s) for crassness, classness & shamelessness.
Jesus Sultan she's a *Clinton*, what could anyone possibly expect?!
"BTW, I DID find the Eels CD's at the local Borders. But they don't look like my kinda group."
Ahhhh yes, read the book by its cover, did ya? :o)
HA!!
That pic on Beautiful Frrealks can weird a guy out, alright.
OK, so you're validating my judgement for not sending you a copy of their work then, right?
FWIW: It's the writing Sultan, that's what makes those guys so special (to me).
That they wrote what they have, in the way they did, in the current PC atmosphere is what I found astonishing.
Are they a "Sinatra," or "Temptations"?
Hell no; but, that's why I like 'em, & also, why I knew you wouldn't.
The eels are a generation thrice removed from you & twice, me; so, *if* a person our vintage were to give 'em a try, they'd have to either have an artistic vien themselves, or, reach.
"Picked up some early 60's Motown collections, though."
Hmmmm, I'm thinking of acts like Lloyd Price, The Coasters, The Crests, Joe Jones, Chubby Checker, The Drifters, Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs, Bobby Lewis, The Marcels, The Sherelles, Ben E. King & on and on.
*If* it is these kinds of people you like, may I make a *suggestion*?
Try buying the "Billboard" CD collection marketed by Rhino Records, OK?
I got 'em *all* for the 10 years covering 1957 through 1967.
...an essential for a music lover with your taste(s).
Sorta the same sentiments that I was feelin' as I penned "Keep Our Votes to Ourselves!!", I imagine!!
"(~like the proverbial dog with an old shoe, aren'tcha? :o) )"
LOL...actually, that'd be the infamous "thong" fetish you've got.
"Damned lucky for Mrs.Mud you're not my neighbor, pal. Not only would I show up at your front door in a speedo, it'd be a red one with white faux fur trim; &, the hat? It'd look just like *Santa's*. Guarenteed to scare the hell outa your beautiful bride, no doubt, while your kids would howl with laughter."
I believe the local constabularies would be gettin' a 911 call afore you got the chance to ring the doorbell a second time. Still, despite the Missuz meetin' jla last year, I half expect such an introduction would be considered par fer the course as far as how FReepers can be expected to act...LOL!!
"John certainly must've made an unusually good impression on Him, that He'd take him in such a quick, painless & compassionate manner."
That's a wonderful way to think about it, my FRiend. Still, it's too damned soon.
"She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" and "Golden Slumbers"
Two very good songs...I'll keep them in mind, although I've really only FReeped a handful of songs over the last six months. That Georgia Satellites' song just sorta jumped out at me, and I expect future offerings will address Dubyuh's over-willingness to compromise with the RATS. I still like Dubyuh as a person and fully support him in the War on Terrorism, but his political allies need to get through to him that his triangulation strategy is gonna cost him the support of too many conservatives to continue on unchecked!!
FReegards...MUD
About as well as can be expected. I "celebrated" my first anniversay of you-know-what three weeks ago. I have a meeting with the transplant folks in January. Trying to get a second opinion from a new cardiologist regarding the risks.
"...Hitlery & her shenanagan showing up in Iraq. Truth is I really don't have anything to say beside that one never lets me down & has always exceeded my expectation(s) for crassness, classness & shamelessness."
I couldn't have put it better myself! But you have a way with words my FRiend!
"OK, so you're validating my judgement for not sending you a copy of their (The eels) work then, right?"
Well, if it's free, I can't lose anything sampling it, can I?
"The eels are a generation thrice removed from you & twice, me;..."
Before us or after us. BTW, aren't we basically from the *same* generation?
"Hmmmm, I'm thinking of acts like Lloyd Price, The Coasters, The Crests, Joe Jones, Chubby Checker, The Drifters, Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs, Bobby Lewis, The Marcels, The Sherelles, Ben E. King & on and on."
Ah, man! EXACTLY!!
"Try buying the "Billboard" CD collection marketed by Rhino Records, OK? I got 'em *all* for the 10 years covering 1957 through 1967."
Thanks for the tip. I have a couple of those but will try to get the whole set.
Taking a break from this place has been a "good thing" for me & for the place, Sultan.
I really need to better focus efforts in real world pursuits, although I do frequent another forum quite often, it's a place where "politics" per se is [somewhat] verbotin.
>I trust you're doing well this holiday season?
"About as well as can be expected."
You still have a pulse, Sultan.
I think all who know & love you, myself included, would agree that's in & of itself pretty damned "well".
"I 'celebrated' my first anniversay of you-know-what three weeks ago."
It's been a tough row to hoe for you this year, hasn't it.
Then to add insult to injury, time's flight.
Take solice in the fact time's ripping us all off, whether we're aware of it or not.
"I have a meeting with the transplant folks in January. Trying to get a second opinion from a new cardiologist regarding the risks."
That's actually some pretty good news.
Last time we spoke of this xplant matter you'd ruled it out, emphatically, as I recall.
Now there's been a change & one for the better.
About damned time, wouldn't you say?
>...Hitlery & her shenanagan showing up in Iraq. Truth is I really don't have anything to say beside that one never lets me down & has always exceeded my expectation(s) for crassness, classness & shamelessness."
"I couldn't have put it better myself! But you have a way with words my FRiend!"
HA!!
Yea well, if you'd tried you certainly wouldn't have mis-spelled "classlessness" either, huh. {g}
>OK, so you're validating my judgement for not sending you a copy of their (The eels) work then, right?
"Well, if it's free, I can't lose anything sampling it, can I?"
No, not if you put it to me like that, I suppose.
I just thought I wouldn't waste your time, is all.
There were a few other artists I'd felt you'd instantly begin to derive pleasure from who'd serve your needs better.
Working to "find messages" in music is all fine and dandy, has its place, granted.
I just didn't think it was appropriate for you, under the circumstances.
>The eels are a generation thrice removed from you & twice, me;...
"Before us or after us."
C'mon, gimme a break.
We're old enough to have fathered these eels brats, Sultan.
"BTW, aren't we basically from the *same* generation?"
HA!!
Was wondering if you'd flag me over that one!! :o)
Blood sugars might be screwed up, but, you remain sharp as a tack. {g}
>Hmmmm, I'm thinking of acts like...
"Ah, man! EXACTLY!!"
I thought so.
The *years* you cited tipped me off.
>Try buying the "Billboard" CD collection marketed by Rhino Records...
"Thanks for the tip. I have a couple of those but will try to get the whole set."
At the risk of sounding redundent? :o)
I directed you to Billboard because I want you to remember that the BB CDs are actually compilations of the top 10 "hits" for each year by Billboard magazine, an industry heavy.
Means the artists we'd [affectionately] call, "One Hit Wonders" who never made "superstar" status are there.
Those long forgotten names who made some great impressions on us in our joyful, carefree, AM radio days youth are recalled by the Billboard lists.
It is primarily *those* artists that please one the most hearing once again after 30+ years have passed.
Just play a few songs for your wife that were in the top 10 when you were dating [her] & watch her face light up like a Christmas tree.
You'll *see* what I'm talking about, then.
Plus, if you like some of these long forgotten artists that much, there's always the possibility someone's making a CD of the "OneHitWonder's" (only?) LP, which before was available only on 33RPM vinyl; &, then only if you could locate a copy.
Bottom line, it's really difficult to buy music from the distant past if you cannot remember names & the "Billboard" series is an important *tool* for rectifying most if not all memory lapses.
One last tip for you.
Instead of going to "CDNow" or any other retail outlet for this stuff, try Amazon.
You'll find everything you want preowned from CD *Brokers* at a fraction of the cost.
For example (as a youth) I enjoyed *some* of the music by an artist named "Todd Rundgren," OK?
But since this pinhead's an active & vocal Lefty these days there was no way in hell I was going to support the imbecile; hence, I've *not* been inspired to upgrade the vinyl stuff of his in my collection.
Especially since they're asking $17.95 (on average) + S&H for a "new" CD??
Nonesense!
But at Amazon I got the Rundgren clown's, "Wizard, A True Star" preowned, for $9.00 incl s&h.
Moral of the story: Rundgren will once again entertain Landru, while Landru will not be financing Rundgren's *politics*.
...pretty slick solution to the leftist pinhead's antics, eh?
Yup.
I'm so damned disappointed there aren't the words.
Not entirely by the actions of this POTUS, either; but, by the lengths people have gone to justify what he's done.
"Stunned" would be a good word to describe my feelings, & "surreal" another.
This upcoming election's going to be very interesting and for a variety of reasons, too.
>(~like the proverbial dog with an old shoe, aren'tcha?
"LOL...actually, that'd be the infamous "thong" fetish you've got."
Ummmm how would you know *what* my fetishs are Son, assuming I have any?
I don't recall discussing that topic with you & it sure isn't my *style* to speak -- pubically, anyway -- of such things; so, are we doin' a little *projecting* here?
eh?
And FYI, I've resolved to shed enough blubber to fit into my speedo this year.
I'll be damned if I'm gonna look like a French deckhand on The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau again this year, scaring all the neighbor kids & their moms.
Sheshhhh, enough already.
"I believe the local constabularies would be gettin' a 911 call afore you got the chance to ring the doorbell a second time."
HA!!
Beats the hell outa a 12ga. :o)
"Still, despite the Missuz meetin' jla last year, I half expect such an introduction would be considered par fer the course as far as how FReepers can be expected to act...LOL!!"
Seeing jla show up wearing bermuda shorts, black socks & burgundy loafers would've scared anyone.
>John certainly must've made an unusually good impression on Him, that He'd take him in such a quick, painless & compassionate manner."
"That's a wonderful way to think about it, my FRiend."
I meant it.
I've seen an awful lot of suffering in my time & realize what I've witnessed was only but a fraction of what's there.
John was dearly loved to have been called back in such a beautiful way.
"Still, it's too damned soon."
For us, yea; but, not for John.
His calling was just in time.
I believe I once sent you the Moody Blues collection, didn't I?
Well if I have, I direct you to their 2nd album & a song called, "Visions of Paradise".
A song *for* a "Poet".
"...and I expect future offerings will address Dubyuh's over-willingness to compromise with the RATS."
OK, fine.
But then you also realize this will not be tolerated for too long around here.
So don't go gettin' all bent outa shape when they bounce your ass out the door.
No one -- seems -- to care much for a person's intentions anymore, & it'll be your [good] intentions that'll be your undoing.
"I still like Dubyuh as a person and fully support him in the War on Terrorism, but his political allies need to get through to him that his triangulation strategy is gonna cost him the support of too many conservatives to continue on unchecked!!"
I'm afraid Dubya doesn't give a damn about "support" if his actions mean anything; &, I'm not sure because of his behavior(s) I give a damn, either.
As I've already said.
...gonna be one hellova interesting election.
If I ever become emperor, I'm gonna outlaw change.
