Question: How do the networks arrive at their "ratings" figures? Is it all through Nielsen and other such companies with direct hook ups to selected TVs or do they do surveys or a combination?

I know they buy third party data from companies like Tivo. Anyone with a DVR and phone connection transmitts data too.
