Milwaukee Man In Custody For Allegedly Shooting 2-Year-Old Girl

MILWAUKEE -- A 2-year old Milwaukee girl is in critical but stable condition at Children's Hospital after being shot early Sunday on the city's north side.

Police have one man behind bars accused of the shooting. They said he the little girl's uncle and lived in the home.

Police said Monday morning that it appears the man was pulling the gun out of his pocket when it went off.

Maurice Claypool lives just a few houses away from where the shooting took place. He said he's had enough and has decided to move out.

"The neighborhood is going bad. It's going bad," Claypool said.

Claypool's not alone. A number of people 12 News reporter Brendan Conway talked to said over the past few years things on the block have taken a turn for the worse.

"(A) lot of different things -- loud music you know, marijuana everywhere. It's a lot of different things. It's bad. It's bad," Claypool said.

Claypool knows first-hand. He said someone recently started his van on fire.

"People aren't scared of the police, really. They gonna do what they want to do anyway. They take their chances. It don't even matter," Claypool said.

He just hopes those days are behind him and his family as they look forward to their new home and new neighborhood.

"We are so happy we don't know what to do. Aren't you all happy to? We're glad to get out of here," Claypool said.

WISN 12 News also learned other family members were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

The 2-year-old is one of a number of young shooting victims in Milwaukee this year. The most recent was a 5-year-old victim of a drive-by shooting on the south side. He was shot in the leg in late July.

Yeah...and I can bet what kind of "uncle" this character was. Mommy's friend "Uncle" Jamael or whatever the heck his name is.

It's sad when decent people have to move out of their neighborhood.

I came home from work today and there were nine squads and a few unmarked cars up the block. A couple of police standing by a tree with rifles.

The liberal handouts gave these (in this instance) immigrants the keys to ruin our beautiful neighborhood.

That neighborhood's been bad for 30+ years.

This guy's in jail for an "accidental" shooting but the cop who killed the teen driver in a Texas parking lot less than a week ago is not - even though the cop also said the gun went off "accidentally." In my opinion, either both should be in jail, or neither should.

Tough story.

BTW, does anyone who writes for newspapers know correct grammar or punctuation these days? If this wasn't such a sad story, I'd be LMAO.

The difference between this case and the one you mention is that the man who was shot was stopped in a stolen car and was trying to drag the cop along in his get-away. So the cop is suppossed to let the car-thief go or let himself be injured? You have a hard-on for cops and are just as guilty of anarchy as the quote I lifted from this article. Who are you going to call when they set your car on fire or steal it? You need a real reality check right now.

The circumstances of the case don't matter: the officer said the discharge was "accidental" which means he was not in control of his firearm, just as the man in this case, pulling the gun out of his pocket, was not in control of his firearm either. An important difference is that the person shot by the cop died, while this 2-year-old girl is in "critical but stable" condition. But this man is in jail and the cop isn't. If anything, it should be the opposite on this basis alone. Did this guy lose all his guns as a result of this shooting? Did the cop lose all his?
