They shouldn't even reveal that they'll be flying at night. It's nobody's business but the military's.

That's what I was wondering as well. This might protect from RPGs and weapons fire but I don't see how it would protect from something more sophisticated.

WWND?= What would Nixon do?
Nixon would have leveled Fallujah with B-52 strikes, and the helicopters would fly day or night.

If you can't see an aircraft, it is hard to launch an IR SAM at it. All Russian IR SAM's require the shooter to find the target first with his eyeballs.

Nixon would have leveled Fallujah with B-52 strikes, and the helicopters would fly day or night. Round up the women and children, herd em off to camp, level every thing else...
start all over with a new town. Call it Free Fallujah.
I'd do this with a couple of other "hot spot" towns too. I don't think it would take too many to get the message across.

It would take a terrorist about one night of staying up and listening for the sound to figure this out.

Are we there to install democracy of brutally subjugate an enemy? I imagine it'll end of the latter but only after we suffer a mortal wound of some sort. Babylon gonna fall.

But if they continually change their take-off times and the routes taken, they might be able to avoid danger.

Are we there to install democracy of brutally subjugate an enemy? My only reason for us being there is to seek out and destroy our enemy in the war on terror.
If in the process we happen to install some type of democracy, well, that would be a nice perk.
If we are able to actually facilitate a peace loving and thriving Iraq of the future in the middle of that cesspool called the Middle East, that would be an even nicer perk.
But it still isn't my reason for being there.

Looks like a victory for the Ramarags
That seems to be standard procedure with this administration. Every time the terrorists do something bad, instead of responding to the threat, they hand them an even bigger victory. This modus operandi goes all the way back to shortly after September 11, 2001, when Dubya and th' boyz shoved the (ANTI)Patriot Act down our throats, effectively taking away more of the freedoms and liberties that US citizens used to enjoy, than the terrorists could have damaged, had they flown 1000 planes that day.
When Dubya took us into Iraq, I thought that he was developing a backbone and some moral courage. But, although he has done better than his daddy, it seems that he suffers from the same malady - taskus interruptus. In other words, like his daddy, he can't or won't finish the job he started.
You have to know that the terrorists are now adjusting their tactics to take advantage of this weakness. Future attacks will be meant, to not only kill as many Americans as possible, but to trick Dubya into taking away even more of our Constitutionally guaranteed rights.
Tune in next week for the next excruciating episode of "Dubya's War on Terrorism and the American People" --- "(ANTI)Patriot III - The Administration Strikes Back".

Kind of like burn the village in order to save it?
No, declare victory and leave. If they threaten again, bomb again. And don't rebuild - no money - you created the problem, you fix it.

It worked so well for the Athenians at Melos, no? Not sure how that applies?
In Iraq you have an enemy that hides amongst the suburbs a la guerilla style warfare. He hides, strikes and goes back into hiding. The city dwellings are his friend and refuge.
What I am suggesting is that we round up those worth saving and incarcerate them until we demolish the terrorists hideout(s). We then rebuild or relocate as necessary. This would not apply to too many sites in Iraq, just the hot spots in the triangle area.
Now, does that compare with the Athenians at Melos? I dunno...you decide.
