Let me tell you a little story
about an old marine's last tangle
with the Catholic Church.
A newly discovered late onset diabetic
my dad had gained considerable
weight and circumference. The
rules had changed and now there
were eucharistic ministers which
were provided the front rows of
the church, the only rows my dad
could fit in. After explaining the
predicament to the pastor he asked
if there was some way we could use
the reserved rows since these new
ministers were not using them anyway.
That pastor stood there and judged my
pop in front of his children and said,
"If you don't like it, find another church"
Enough said.

Maybe if his son wasn't destined to become such an apostate and heretic the priest would have been a bit kinder, eh?

Sorry your dad allowed himself to gain that much weight.

It is true they don't allow anyone to sit in the Eucharistic ministers place. Plus if he was THAT big he would be hard to get around in addition.

Why didn't your dad do what normally is done, either ask for a fold up chair for outside a pew or
Sit in the back and have communion brought out to him?
Lastly, he could have sat where the kids room is and all those are individual chairs as well.

He just asked to sit in the wrong place is all.
I came up with three alternatives in 20 seconds, how come your dad couldn't do that as well.

Seems strange to me.
Sorry about his health.

As the child of a diabetic, I would suggest you abstain from all illegal drugs though. Genetics might not be in your favor for the long hall.

Am sorry about your dad's suffering with diabetes though. That is a tough break.
