Hard to believe, but Reagan was a sympathetic figure in Stone's biopic with Al Haig (overplayed by Richard Dreyfuss)being trashed as the out-of-control power-mad whacko ready to take out the Russkies when they least expected it. I think Stone also overdramatized Nancy a bit but then how would most strong-willed women react when their husband has been shot and is in surgery?
PBS, by the way, aired an American Experience biography on Ronald Reagan a couple of years ago which I thought was fair and balanced considering the source. They didn't give Reagan any credit for ending the Cold War and piled on the usual bilge about AIDS, the homeless, the deficits and Iran-Contra but it didn't come across as a mean-spirited hatchet job and did show quite a bit of Reagan's positive character and the inspiration he gave to others.
With those in mind, I'd think both would pass on another major release about Ronald Reagan.
