Doh! "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening may have crossed the line with his comment last week to National Public Radio's Terry Gross that Fox media empire almost sued itself. (Now that takes some talent!)

The story goes that Fox News Channel execs were none too thrilled last year when the wildly popular cartoon, which is on Fox Broadcasting, featured a fake news ticker mocking the station's conservative rep. The headlines included gems such as: "Do Democrats Cause Cancer? . . . Study: 92 percent of Democrats are gay . . . JFK posthumously joins Republican Party . . ."

...Nonetheless "The Simpsons" (the show, not the characters) issued an apology yesterday: "Matt was being satirical and certainly there was never any issue between the show and Fox News. We regret any confusion."

So I assume either Terry Gross called Anne or Anne is a big NPR fan to bring up a silly comment by Groening about a Simpson's show over a year old.

speaking of NPR...did anyone ever see the parody of NPR on Sat Night Live...the show "Delicious Dish?"

perfectly captured the insipid blandness of NPR (when they aren't in attack mode against the US.)

and seaking of weird radio...anyone ever hear Bachelor and Alexander... a local station just picked them up on syndication... weird show.

I've been listening to them on WABC in New York for more than a year and a half, and during the 2002 elections and during the Iraq war, they sounded like FR on occasion.

There's a lot I tune out, but their election and campaign coverage (especially of the Cal recall and the Dem candidates) is entertaining and interesting.

I thought the Fox News parody was hilarious. I doubt Fox News took the spoof seriously. Any person who watches the Simpsons or is familiar with them knows that the Simpsons poke fun at Murdoch and Fox all the time all as kind hearted ribbing.

MadTV does great spoofs of the O'Reilly factor. He debates himself. We love those when they come on.

It seems to me that The Simpsons are equal opportunity satirists. In fact, they dump on liberals and Democrats a whole lot more than they do conservatives and Republicans. I'll never forget the episode where Marge meets Bill Clinton at a barbeque and Clinton brags about doing a pig. "No kidding - - a real live honest-to-gosh pig!"

That has not yet been proven. However they cause heartburn and headaches. And the only difference between a migraine and a stroke is a matter of degree. Therefore Democrats do cause heart problems and strokes and should be taken off the market as a public health issue.
