Wonder who the 14 were that voted against it? Whoever voted against it needs to get out on the fire lines in SoCal to see first hand what their environmental policies have done to a beautiful state and the San Bernardino Mountain resorts.

They usually cover their real intent by saying that they couldn't vote for such and such a bill because it fails to take into account this or that, or "leaves the door wide open" to some unfounded potential horror that only exists in their heads. They insist that Americans deserve perfection.

Later on, the same people will vote for an insane and restrictive measure that favors their own little socialist pet projects, saying something along the lines of "I'll be the first to admit it's not a perfect bill, but it's the first step towards [closing the door on some unfounded potential horror that only exists in their heads]".

When you see them talking like this with a very serious voice, be assured that they are lying about their true intent.

The interior department reports that over 90% of requests for permits for clearing operations were approved, and many of those contested were eventually improved.

I think folks ought to quit bashing the Bush administration and the Congress for the fires. These things happen. Sure, the bill will improve the situation, but California has had a fire season for a long time and will continue to do so absent another ice age.

Probably the same 14 nitwits who:

Consider a chpped down tree to a be "bad for Karma"; insist on driving around in electric cars w/AC, and 8-speaker Bose stereo sound system; are relieved a human rather than laboratory rat die from untested drugs.
