The families who have lost their homes or lost loved ones need to file class action lawsuits against the enviro groups. Once a few of these are won, the groups will lose their insurance coverage and will fold.

The lumber industry left the Southern California forests long before the environmentalist movement got started. The fact is that there's not enough commercial value in those forests to pay for cutting them down. In it's place, the local economy for the last 50 years has grown up around vacation real estate and recreation. Even if you found an industry to come in and log those forests, it would almost certainly have a detrimental effect on the tourist industry.
