From another group...
tonight as soon as it gets dark enough to see it about 45 minutes after sunset. Where to look? Well, based upon the report that the oval is over NYC, just about overhead and any where in the sky. Don't worry though, if you are in a dark enough location-if things keep going as they are now you will have no problem knowing where to look as it could be that bright. Because of the intensity of the Gemag disturbance this one will be multi-colored for most observers and deep red for those in the southern States like Florida and Hawai'i (yes, HI for the last time the field was this disturbed-the aurbo was seen from Mauna Kea)

Thanks for the info, I was starting to think I wasn't going to be able to see it here in VA Beach while my husband (let's just say parts unknown-he IS on a submarine) gloats about seeing the aurora AGAIN. *LOL*

I remember seeing the auroras in New Jersey when I was about seven years old. Haven't seen them since.

You could see it last night too. We saw a deep red about 6:30pm which was about 45 min after sunset. I really did'nt realize what I was seeing, now I do. Thanks for the heads up. This was in the upstate of SC.

"Has the world ended yet?? ;-) "Yes but you are blissfully in denial. Your mind is imagining that life goes on, because it doesn't want to face reality.
Enjoy the dream.

It's been raining like hell here in New York, so if you see an auroral display in the sky I'd suggest you lay off the peyote for a while. LOL.

We saw a deep red We had that last night in Alaska, deep red is the exact color. There were also green patches across the sky. It is unusual. If anybody remembers, the whole sky was red from aurora as seen from Fairbanks during the very first Space Shuttle flight.

I got to see an exceptional auroral storm up in Alberta back in March of 2001, and I think I'd be hard-pressed to imagine how much more magnificent this one would be. During its peak, I had to look
south to see the most intense colors in the sky.
Imagine looking straight up into a green, red, and yellow umbrella that stretched nearly to the horizon in every direction.

Check out the colors dude.
I think the sky is supposed to clear up pretty soon. Might get a show around here sometime tonight, if you can see through the light pollution.

This one lacks form and definition. It is bright and red, but diffuse.

Just getting dark here in North Carolina. I stepped out and looked but there's nothing going on. It would be hard to see anyway with all those darn trees! Where's my chainsaw?

I live out near the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Morris County, so if it clears up late tonight I may venture out for a look -- the light pollution isn't as bad out there.

A small photo from that 2001 event is posted on my profile page, about halfway down.
