(Lower Manhattan-WABC, October 29, 2003) This morning, federal agents were carrying out a series of raids in New York and New Jersey. They are rounding up dozens of illegal immigrants who are convicted sex offenders and were supposed to be deported.
The Department Of Homeland Security is in charge of this operation. They are going after more than just suspected terrorists. They are going after illegal aliens who are convicted sex offenders who have slipped through the cracks.
The 80 people targeted for arrest have done time for brutal crimes, rapes and sexual assaults on children. They were supposed to be kicked out of the country when they finished their time in prison. But many simply walked free and the government lost track of them, until now. The roundup makes good on a pledge to find and deport the criminals.
Tom Ridge, Secretary of Homeland Security: "When the last day of their sentences expire, we will meet them at the front door of the prison and escort them to the border."
It's not clear how such violent "convicted" offenders were able to walk away from deportation. Customs officials have arrested 1300 sex offenders since July and they say that effort is intensifying.
The arrests will take place throughout the day on Wednesday. The Department of Homeland Security has called a news conference later on today with more details about this investigation.

Anyone else find the timing of all these new raids on illegals and the approaching DREAM Act just a bit coincidental? Can we say "window dressing"?

These guys'll probably still manage to vote for Democrats, even from wherever they're deported to. Except the ones who get deported to Boca Raton, those'll vote for Buchanan by mistake.

This is nuts!
illegal is illegal. Rounding up on sex offender illegals
somehow serves to legitimize the non-sex offender illegal uh, er... undocumented workers....
Illegal is illegal! They all have to go! End of story.

Illegal is illegal! They all have to go! End of story. Yep, but I am all in favor of chasing the potential terrorists and sex criminals first, and the guys who are just here to mow lawns second.

They're not saying which border. Hope it's Syria or Iraq.

This is a start. A bit late, though. Hopefully we can move forward and expand the ring to include others who are not guilty of such heinous crimes, but are illegal, anyway (and therefore, by definition are criminals) and deport them, as well. If they resist, then they should be ready to pay the price, up to and including the ultimate penalty (although I certainly hope it doesn't have to come to that). An invader is an invader, and he can kill you quickly or slowly, but he can kill you just the same, and you will be just as dead. I welcome LEGAL immigrants who wish to become a part of the American experiment in freedom and self-governance; others need not apply.

I understand the inconvenience of having to mow your own lawn, but if you step back and look at the big picture, you see a creeping 'legitimization' of illegal immigrants.
They are even trying to change the terminology so that they don't seem to be what they are (undocumented workers versus illegal aliens). Remember that when Reagan granted amnesty in the 80's,it was on the condition that it would never happen again! Well, the government should be held accountable. And if we don't make a stink about broken promises, then we get what we deserve.
Differentiating between 'types' of illegals is another step towards condoning blatant law violations. How does the interrogation go at a raid anyways?
"Do you have papers?"
"No, Senor"
"Well, Are you a sex offender?"
"No, Senor."
"Well, ok then you can stay".
"Muchas gracias, Senor, muchas gracias!"
It's insane!

Anyone else find the timing of all these new raids on illegals and the approaching DREAM Act just a bit coincidental?Yes. I think the plan is to tell us that all of the "bad" illegals are gone and it's now "safe" to welcome the undocumented workers with open arms.

The DREAM act offers in-state tuition rates to the children of illegals who are between 17 and 23 and have lived in the US (illegally, but through no fault of their own[?!]) for 4 years or longer.
It was passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee last week on a vote of 16-3.

"Well, are you a sex offender?"
Could someone try to convince me that illegals from ANY other country even fully understand what the USA definition of SEX OFFENDER is?
Half the guys I dated when I was younger and dumber don't know the answer to that. How can we expect someone from another culture to understand our definitions?

They are rounding up dozens of illegal immigrants who are convicted sex offenders and were supposed to be deported. I hope the administration doesn't mind if I don't fall to my knees in appreciation until they begin enforcing US immigration law in ALL instances.
