Authorities Arrest Suspected Arsonist Hikers In Eaton Canyon Reported Man POSTED: 10:04 p.m. PST October 28, 2003

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST -- A man was arrested Tuesday after deputies caught him setting a fire in a steep, remote canyon filled with dry brush and large trees in the Angeles National Forest, according to sheriff detectives.

Hikers in a remote trail about a half-mile north of the Eaton Canyon Bridge in Altadena saw a man making a fire there and alerted authorities, sheriff's Detective Ed Nordskog said.

Los Angeles County Parks officials and deputies arrived about 10 a.m. as the man was standing next to a fire about four feet in diameter. He warned the deputies to stay away and not extinguish the blaze, Nordskog said.

The man, identified as Dikran Armouchian, 23, of Pasadena, made comments about the fire he had started -- and a smaller one nearby -- as it was extinguished, Nordskog said.

Officials noted that the area was ripe for the fast spread of a fire, he said.

Armouchian, who had been reported missing by his family in Glendale, was booked at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station and held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Nordskog said.

The U.S. Forest Service's Law Enforcement Section and the Sheriff's Arson/Explosives Detail are investigating the case, Nordskog said.

No need to apologize. I actually learned to speak it from my mother. I spoke it quite fluently as a child but not anymore. I've forgotten a lot of it. My sister and I were born close to the time when Mom came over and married my father. My brothers were born some time later and mom had learned to speak English then and they never learned it. I love the music of that language. When I went to Norway with mom before she died of cancer, I was surprised at how fast I picked it up again. I love Norway and all things Norwegian. sigh.

You'd enjoy it over here. In the small town we live in-- and in most of the surrounding towns as well-- there are various Norwegian, Swedish, German, etc., festivals throughout the year. It's not uncommon to go down to the local cafe (in our case "Hermann's Bakery") and listen to half the patrons conversing in some Norsk language or other. I learned German while overseas and was exposed, pretty heavily, to Dutch and Danish, so I can pick up a smattering of their conversations, but I'd like to learn more-- maybe down the road in my other free time...

Anyone caught deliberately setting fire in our forest should be shot on sight, if caught alive, should be executed. This is a crime not only against the USA, but also on Humanity and Nature. The justice system has been corrupted in the USA by the Trial lawyers so badly, the quilty gets away, the innocent is persecuted, and the taxpayers is left holding an empty bag.

Dikran is an Armenian name--it corresponds to the name Tigranes borne by some ancient kings of Armenia. One of them mentioned by Josephus (Antiquities of the Jews, Book 18, Chapter 5) was a grandson of Herod the Great.

Most of the bad stuff was done in the 80's. They seem dormant since the 90's. Yet while this guy is probably a kook, he might have been prodded by somebody else. The pali's often like to claim that they speak for Christian palestinians.

Here's the picture I formed: A refugee, an impressionable kid, probably a little off his rocker, comes to California, the land of dreams he's heard is full of Armenians. He finds none of the generosity he expected ; there's a recession and work is scarce. He grows bitter. He's ripe for plucking-- a bomb for anyone who knows how to set his fuse. There are a lot of people who's business is identifying people like him, and setting them in motion.

Yes, I'm out of harm's way. I'm in Pasadena/Altadena area. They put the fire out he set right away...It's really aweful here!! With the MTA strike, no buses or trains are running and now we have fires closing the freeways...my commute is 3-4 hours a day to work. (1 1/2-2 hours each way). Then the grocer's are on strike....I mean when people are losing their homes to fire, why would we care that a grocer will now have to pay $5 a week for health benefits? Who cares?

I would LOVE that. We used to have the Norwegian Tea in town years ago. We'd go and eat krumkaker, sandkaker, all kinds of good Norske cookies and treats. A Norwegian lady gave me her krumkake iron before she passed away and I got my great aunt's recipe from another person and I just love making them at Christmas. It's a real treat. My grandmother made me julekake every year. When she died, my mother-in-law made me some one year. I thought that was so nice of her. I love listening to them talk. I feel right at home when they're around.
