THE BIGGER the elephants, the more visible the underbelly of the Republican Party. Its stampede into Mississippi on behalf of gubernatorial candidate Haley Barbour continued this week with Vice President Dick Cheney telling 1,200 people, "We are proud to know your next governor, and we are proud of the campaign he has run: positive, hopeful, and optimistic."

The implication that the GOP is inherently racist is ridiculous, but having said that I've got to admit that Barbour's embracing of the CofCC is incredibly stupid. This isn't the SCV or the League of the South. The Council of Conservative Citizens embraces some disgusting causes in the U.S. and especially overseas. Barbour didn't need them to win, I just hope that it doesn't cause him to lose.

You know when the Left has run out of reasonable arguments when they pull out the race card. Calling someone a raciest is always the scum at the bottom of the barrel.

When they bring it up, just ask them about the Rainbow Coalition, NAACP, and every other racist organization on the left.

One thing to stand up against the tyrannical forces of "political correctness", and another to allow yourself to be associated with K3 attitudes and conceits.

Not that I think the Democrats are any less unwilling to dissociate themselves from the Farrakan types . . .

. . . Education Secretary Rod Paige; and former Oklahoma congressman J.C. Watts have all been there.
It has to be said that something about this doesn't pass the smell test. I'm not prepared to believe that J.C.W. is looking for a chance to endorse the KKK. I notice that the article doesn't include a link to the purportedly putrid web site, and I don't take the word of a journalist (or any other Democrat for that matter) on political matters at face value. "Trust but Distrust until you verify."

The GOP will once again crush any hope or optimism that Americans can walk into a polling place without race being the silent lever in the voting booth.

'Silent lever'???

What kind of lame malapropos metaphor is that?

"Silent lever?? WTF??

The 'Z' int he writer's name must stand for Zero.

Here we go again. With 6 days before before the election, the RATS resort to last ditch smear tactics. I hope Barbour, Fletcher, and Jindal win big next month.

I wonder how many papers in Mississippi pick up his column?

My guess is that this is meant more for consumption within the 617 area code and on DU.

This from the guy who looks the other way when the Democrats play the Race Card. I guess Derrick Z. Jackson awoke from his Rip Van Twinkle sleep to bash Republicans before falling asleep again. Talk about a low blow below the belt.

In the 1980s, a brush with a "white-rights" group stained local Democrats, including Rep. Richard Gephardt, then-Rep. Bob Young and a host of St. Louis city officials........

Those ^$(%&@ liberals are at it again. Haley Barbour is making a dumb mistake, but it's not evidence of racism. The 'Rats will say anything to win. But Trent Lott was subject to similar accusations, and his approval rating is 69%. Maybe this will backfire as well.
