"guerilla" almost always refers to attacks on decidedly military targets. The deputy mayor of Baghdad hardly applies. Also, "small bands" is decidedly different from "one guy with an exploding belt".The deputy mayor of Baghdad is a military target. You think we don't target leadership? Why did those guys in the B-1 get medals for blowing up a house in downtown Baghdad?
Furthermore, "The deputy mayor of Baghdad was killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday night", so it was a raid by a small band.

I was referring to the last paragraph, where the word occurs. Killing the deputy mayor of Baghdad is an "assassination" not a "guerilla attack".

Who don't in fact know yet who in fact are the perp/perps of this act. If the perps were Baath party Saddam loyalists or even plain Iraqi citizens, then you can in fact make a good argument for them as true guerillas. If they're foreigners who came into the country from outside, then it's a real stretch to say that they're not terrorists, as we are not at war with all Muslims, and they're not defending their own territory or government.
