FOX News just said the fire burning up toward Lake Arrowhead, out of control, the firefighters are basically in retreat.....they do not feel they can stop it at this point.....very bad news coming out of that area. 45,000 homes at risk they said; they also reported because of the extensive beetle attacks, there's extensive dead growth fueling fire.

lake arrowhead area would be a devastating loss. It originally was the middle class dream vacation area in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. Middle class families would buy cabins up there, on blue collar incomes, and vacation up there in the summer time.

That has changed somewhat, as it has gotten more expensive, however there is a lifetime love for the area for many southern californians. As has been pointed out, Blue Jay, right next to the lake, is the home training ground for professional figure skaters like Michelle Quan. It will take many many years for the area to recover from this, if it is as bad as they believe. You simply do not rebuild Arrowhead, like you would a subdivision. If the trees are all gone, the lake filled with soot, alot of the homeowners might just take their settlement and pocket it.

Financially, it isn't as bad as 9-11, but it will get there if we can't get a hold on these fires.

The SB Fire department set backfires along SR 18 to keep the fire south of SR18 and away from Lake Arrowhead which are the large flames they are seeing now. They hope to burn back into the fire to keep it from jumping HW18. Right now on KTLA from their helicopter shot it is still working and they are moving strike teams into the Lake Arrowhead area in case of a wind shift. If the wind holds blowing south Lake Arrowhead and Blue Jay will be spared as they are for the most part keeping the fires south of HW18.

Been watching for over an hour and the fire hasn't gotten any closer to Rim of the World High School since they started the backfires. Also cannot get air drops into the area because of winds.

What is nearest to being taken out right now is Rim of the World High School.
