To all the other FReepers out there in FReeperland.
Imagine one of your loveliest resort/vacation areas in your state. Put a clean blue lake in the middle of it with pine, fir trees surrounding this lake and then lots of beautiful lakefront homes, resorts and charming mountain commumities with character and history. A real jewel in the crown of your state's vacation spots. Now imagine it all in ashes...a burnt wasteland. This is what us SoCal people are looking at. It is enough to break our hearts.

From the scanner traffic, it really sounds like they're out of resources up there.
Big Bear is next

They've been out of resources for days - but this one's gotten really, really bad. :(

A friend of mine has a house up in Sawpit Canyon near Arrowhead. .....Has anyone heard any news about that place?
To: spectr17
Big bear is only about 20 miles or so away
To: farmer18th
giving briefing soon....
said they are losing structures...
somehow I have both feeds playing on the computer...
radio breifing, we're losing structures, heads up when we go in there, I'll pass on the triggers
Trigger being when they pull back
fire gets to so and so triggering certain pullbacks etc.

Big Bear is 20 miles away from Lake Arrowhead, but I dont think it is 20 miles away from the Burn...there were spot fires reported 6 miles south of Moonridge tonight

When I was a kid, my dad took my brother and I out on Lake Arrowhead in a rowboat. I've got pics somewhere.
Our neighbors had a cabin at Big Bear Lake, and we rented it from them quite a bit.
Such memories. I still love that place, and it will be a crying shame to see it a burned wasteland.

(My aunt's home is okay, grandma's retirement home didn't have to evacuate. Good news there.)

Not more than 2 years ago, we were thinking of moving up to Arrowhead. We really got close to deciding. Now, I am glad we didn't go. But what a shame it is, what a shame. I really feel for all those people.
