At any rate, what I find interesting about the missiles is they were air to ground missiles. French air to ground missiles. Although I won't try to speculate on the motives Saddam might have for buying such missiles it seems an odd purchase doesn't it? Saddam had Mirage jets did he not? But he must've been dreaming to actually believe he would fly one in combat and use those missiles.

The Washington Times on Friday quoted unnamed intelligence officials as saying the company, which has not been named, sold parts for French-made Mirage F-1 jets and Gazelle attack helicopters - an activity banned under United Nations resolutions.

Those missiles would've been right for the French Gazelle helicopters that Iraq had or perhaps the Mirage jets (failing better information).

68mm SNEB unguided rockets are a very common in the arms world. Many countries use these rockets and especially in the Middle East. All it needs is a bit of dodgy dealing and these arms end up in the wrong hands. These unguided 68mm rockets could have been sourced from any number of user countries.

If you must think of the French at all ;-) think of their nation as a woman. An exceedingly difficult woman. A high maintenance woman- as they say here. She will add nothing really useful to the situation at hand but will be full of criticism for all that you do. She will ignore your every advance but would castrate you if you ignore her.

Have you ever read this story- The Little Prince? It is a very nice story by a Frenchman. The French liked it so much that for a while, they put an image of the Little Prince on their money- before the Euro came... In this story (it is fitting I think) the Rose is a very good metaphor for France. She doesn't really need the Little Prince to take care of her with a glass cover and what-not but she wants it. You see? She does not need the Little Prince to stay and look after her, but to her this is love. When the Little Prince leaves her and discovers that she was not so special... Well, the story gets sad there but you see... France is like a difficult woman.

Thanks very much, I enjoyed reading it. It's a good anology of france, but it's much more generous to the frogs. The truth is, the french treated the USA with much more malice and fore thought in the Iraq affair, than just being a difficult woman.
